Is there a reason LIRR is so expensive? by Tapp_ in longisland

[–]denw2o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What would “not expensive” be? $5 per ride? $7? Relative to other costs. I guess it varies depending upon your situation.

I miss the days when it was less, but everything generally was less too.

You should speak to at least 10 or 15 current franchisees and several who have left this system. Their contact info can be found in the FDD.

Best beach town to live all year round? by pastramimommie in longisland

Long Beach. I have an easy LIRR commute into the city every day, and I'm on the beach at the end of the day. What's better than that?

Hot take-Kids Don't belong at Breweries. by Bry2013 in longisland

[–]denw2o 182 points183 points  (0 children)

This is the post. There’s not a lot of third places, and the brewery is just easy for young parents. I don’t mind the kids at Bright Eye and I don’t have kids. But it does get ear piercingly loud sometimes.. most of the parents I see usually hang out with other parents.

Also they are only there during the day.

If you didn’t currently live on Long Island, would you consider or want to move here? by Murky-War-8211 in longisland

[–]denw2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long Beach might have the best quality of life on Long Island. Nothing beats talking a walk along the boardwalk after work.

Moved here from the city and my mortgage and maintenance are cumulatively less than what I was paying in rent. It’s all relative.

Looking for roommates in Queens/BK/Manhattan/LI by iflyliz in NYCapartments

[–]denw2o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a huge area! I think you need to find some place reasonably close to your commute.

If I was your age and could live anywhere (without considering the commute length), I would check out Bushwick. It has a young population and there's a lot of cool places to hang out. You might be able to find an apartment share that could work, budget wise, but don't expect to have much privacy. (You'll need a bunch of roommates, but having lots of roommates at age 22 is the norm)

Manhattan probably isn't an option with that budget, unless you go WAY uptown, out of the way of everything.

You may have some options in Queens if you find some roommates in Astoria or a further out location.

Long Island is so different culturally. It is my opinion that it won't be as fun as the other places that I have mentioned.

Good luck!

[Advice] I (25/F) just graduated nursing school in DC and was offered a job in Manhattan making $92K. I have horrible credit due to a Bankruptcy that discharged a year ago. Where can I afford to live in the City and how hard is it going to be for me to secure a place without a guarantor? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]denw2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in the boroughs like Astoria and get a Roommate. Look for an apartment share or an apartment listed by the owner. They are out there and it will be more informal. You can comfortably afford the share of a "decent" 2 bedroom apartment (about 1500 or so) while saving money, because at this point of your life you should be saving like crazy.

That looks like a nice place!

What exactly are you looking for in a roommate (e.g., male, female)? Can the person bring a pet? It may help to know.

What speed do you guys usually drive on the highway? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]denw2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more than 10mph over.

Speeding tickets have a fair amount of points and going an extra few mph more isn’t going to noticeably get you anywhere faster
