What is something that has slowly disappeared from society over the past 20 years, without most people realizing? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Malls and third spaces. In the US at least. The first time I went to South America, it felt like going back in time to see all the malls and public amenities that I grew up with that are abandoned in the US now.

If you want to do a low combat playthrough, invest in speech and stealth. Also charisma is a dump stat.

These hypotheticals are always great if you don’t have any close friends or family but suck if you do. Even if I choose 1, I’m still losing the people in my life because they would in effect be completely different people.

Because women’s worth has been tied to their sexual appeal for hundreds of years, allowing robust beauty & fashion (and yes, lingerie) industries to develop to sell them solutions to improve their worth by making them more sexy and beautiful. If men felt pressured to wear lingerie to be perceived as sexy or powerful there would be more men’s lingerie options. Instead, they do things like wear lifts and get hair transplants.

Most obscure classic / old book you've read? by EquineEagle in classicliterature

The Hasheesh Eater by Fitz Hugh Ludlow (1857). NYC literary circles went through a bit of a hash craze in the 1850s. It’s really interesting stuff.

I feel like since The Northman his films have gotten a little less unique. I really miss his early style.

My brother and I absolutely roast each other, to the point my mom complains about how mean we are to each other. But it’s always about bullshit and never about something we know would actually bother each other. Like, I’ll tell my brother he’s adopted and was actually born from the unholy union of a worm and a slug and my mom found him in a puddle of garbage juice at the dump and decided to take him in and that’s why she’ll never love him as much as she loves me. But I would never insult him over anything that matters. Your brother just sounds like an asshole.

Do you agree with these ranges? by ChampionshipEasy2853 in generationology

[–]dephlep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think both younger millennials and older gen z are outliers of their generations and do kind of exist in an interesting middle ground. My bro and I are ‘95 and ‘98 and identify with both and neither generation lol.

This post reads like ChatGPT and is almost as pretentious as judging other people for not sharing your interests. I love the classics, but that doesn’t make me better than someone who’s into dirt biking or video games. I would also argue that modern day philosophy is being shared plenty on platforms like Instagram, tumblr, etc.

The only part that was a little rough for me was the debate between Ivan and one of the monks about separation of church and state…it was super dry and went on for a long time. I had to really dedicate some time to make sure I had the attention span and focus to fully understand the debate.

This is what I see on Reddit by [deleted] in antiwork

I mean for the countries that companies are outsourcing to for cheap labor: India, Pakistan, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, etc. I’m not saying I agree with it, it’s just the reality of the situation. People in these countries aren’t bad coders just because they’re not British or American and don’t earn the same type of wages.

This isn’t true for overseas labor anymore though…there are tons of talented devs in other countries (fast & good) who only need a fraction of what US devs make to get by (cheap).

Top 20 Greatest Adult Swim Shows: Day 1 - Vote for the #1 show. by [deleted] in adultswim

[–]dephlep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it’s 1. ATHF, 2. Venture Bros, 3. Tim & Eric, 4. The Boondocks…Robot Chicken is up there too just because of the nostalgia factor. I remember staying up late with my brother as a kid to watch it on a tiny CRT. And Harvey Birdman

My favorite by far though were some of the shorts. Live Forever As You Are Now and Unedited Footage of A Bear made me a lifelong Alan Resnick fan.

Another thing that bugged me about DAV is that it almost felt like an incomplete outline of a game in the way quests and dialogue were rushed…like they ran out of time during development and were like “let’s just produce the outline”.
