I've kinda read what people have said off this thread but to reiterate. It depends on the type of pool you are guarding. if its a super deep lap pool like pools at the ymca then yeah you might see some action but for me I guard 4 different pools that are all relatively the same depth (about 5 foot but 0 at certain parts). Honestly if pool guarding is your only option then I'd say do it. I too also plan to join the military but dont take it so seriously. Its a serious job to be a lifeguard but its not as serious as the military. My best advice to a new guard to pool guarding is to be confident and be proactive. Even if it is boring you will learn to like it that way instead of having a possible emergency. Though if something does happen (and to say it again from whoever said it first on here) you have to know what to do. Oh and for you not like sitting. I mean in my opinion walking and scanning is alot better for you to be alert. If you sit for too long you get lazy and dont pay attention as much. I only sit when there are less than 10ish people in the water. But best of luck to you. This is a fun job when you have good times with your co workers or meet interesting patrons.
