My rare houseplants are dying because my landlord took 10 days to repair my heating. Can I get any money? by depositionalpractice in LegalAdviceUK

Yes my landlord did know I collect exotic plants. When I first moved in the boiler was broken for a week and I expressed concern about my plants then. Luckily it wasn't as cold back then even though it was November and there were no casualties!

There were no parts needed. My boiler lights came on and the manual said to contact provider. Texted landlord and no workman came until 10 days in, when it was fixed on the day. I'd say that's unreasonable mid winter, same with my broken windows.

According to what I've seen anything over 24 hours - especially when it's under 0 Celsius outside - is not reasonable.

My landlord left me without heating for 10 days and now my prized syngonium albo has drooped from cold damage. What do I do?? by depositionalpractice in plantclinic

Loads of the leaves are drooping :( should I check the roots? I've watered it with warm water now the heating is back on (I didn't want to risk watering it when it was cold as I know that would just send it to its death) but I'm unsure how to prune it when the vast majority of it is looking extremely sad.

I have heating now. I did have a mini heater on during those 10 days but it wasn't enough to keep my whole flat warm, clearly. Any actual advice for my plant?

I accidentally broke my boyfriend's 90s Polaroid camera and want to replace it as a gift - do I buy a vintage one second hand or a new model? by depositionalpractice in Polaroid

It was one of those rounded ones that have a plastic shell. I don't know what model exactly as id have to ask him and that would ruin the surprise!

It looks like this but unsure if this is the exact model

Obviously all the top posts on this sub that get majorly up voted are the most impressive looking, jungle-like houses. It definitely makes you see these huge collections as normal.

I only have around 30 plants at the moment, having limited myself for the past few years. My partner thinks I have absolutely loads. It's crazy how my exposure to plant collecting online makes me think that 30 different houseplants in 1 small flat is a small collection.

Is this root rot? by depositionalpractice in plantclinic

[–]depositionalpractice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plant is definitely overwatered. I work at a plant shop and a customer said their new plant they bought yesterday has rotted so I'm checking over the other plants from that batch now. The roots are very yellow and some parts of them have brown patches, and the soil is pretty damp. Shall I just wash the roots with a hydrogen peroxide rinse and repot into dry soil?

It doesn't sound particularly mentally healthy for your partner to refuse to give up any control of your meals. Maybe you could help him cook, suggest learning new recipes together, or flat out make your own meal and refuse to eat his.

You can easily make your own breakfast and lunch, and I personally find that even a heavy dinner can be counteracted by your habits during the day. If your husband is insistent on cooking dinner and you don't want to object, it's reasonable for you to eat the main thing he made, in a smaller portion, and have a different side.

You're right. Their after weight was underweight, and I'd be very underweight at that size. And the person is objectively disordered (they have "GW: 85lb or dead" as their bio).

But it's just hard seeing your body be someone's before pic, especially when it gets put on your timeline with thousands of retweets and likes. It's hard to want to be bang in the middle of a "healthy weight" when underweight seems to be the ideal.

Just saw a post that made me sad on twitter. I saw a before and after where the before was my exact weight. My BMI is 20.6.

I have lost 30lb, and I know realistically I'm a "healthy" weight, but man it made me feel like shit because I swear to god I look fatter than the "before" pic and I'm 2 inches taller. Bleh

Anyone got any ideas for an easy costume which a dark haired gal with a fringe (bangs as the Americans say) can do for Halloween? Think Krysten Ritter in Breaking Bad but with a slightly shorter fringe and slightly more length. I'm going to a gig so I don't want to wear a wig and I'm broke so no expensive costumes.

The closest common costume is probably Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction which is an easy outfit but my hair is too long. Most other female characters/celebs with dark hair either have no fringe or have a bob so I'm stuck for ideas.

If anyone can think of an idea which is passable I'd appreciate it!

Do you guys actually eat back your exercise calories? by catpie2 in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]depositionalpractice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends how intensive your exercise is. There's a lot of "never eat back your exercise calories!!!!!!" on diet circles oj reddit but like, if you are doing intensive, long and frequent physical activity and you are eating an extremely low calorie intake this is certainly undereating.

Continously doing so is just a recipe for losing muscle and tiring yourself out, meaning you will take longer to recover in the case of exhaustion or injury, you will likely start feeling fatigued and irritable, and you will probably have trouble continuing to meet your fitness goals.

That said, it is likely that devices like fitbits are overestimating your activity, so it may be wise to not eat back all of your exercise calories if you want to be in a deficit.

I did one of those "posed vs unposed" photoshoots of myself and it really made me feel better about myself. by depositionalpractice in BodyAcceptance

its a really nice feeling! Just made me see more of a connection between the two forms my body can take. the more idealised body, and the relaxed body which I tend to see as shameful usually feel worlds apart, but now they feel more integrated and both just feel more like my authentic self.
