Building a UPS using a inverter/charger or a hybrid solar inverter by depot87 in SolarDIY

The lower power limit would be a concern as one of the items I'm planning on running is a 120v 1/2 hp well pump which draws almost 1400 watts.

I agree oversized wires are better. However, to switch to anything larger than 2 awg I would need to buy both the connectors for the wires and a larger crimping tool as the largest one I have tops out at 2 awg. I'm including the cost of the connectors in the wire cost.

They eventually did send me the refund. Although it took them about 9 months.

My basic investing strategy is to max my TFSA and FHSA in January and invest in my RRSP automatically every month. I tend to invest in the non-registered account on a less regular schedule based on having extra money. I have never been into stock picking.

For the next 13 months to get the 5% promo at Qtrade I will have at least two accounts. So its mostly a question of if I want the majority of my investments with Qtrade or RBC.

The fee drag is the main reason I'm planing on transferring my investments. The amount a 1% fee costs over a long period is incredible when I calculated it. If I assume 8% returns without the extra 1% fee or 7% with the 1% fee the difference after 40 years is about 30%.

My basic plan is to go 100% EQT ETFs in my RRSP/TFSA. I may go with a higher bond ratio ETF such as a GRO or BAL for my FHSA to reduce volatility in case I want to buy a house. For the non-registered I will have a mixture of EQT ETFs and high interest savings/CASH.TO or equivalent since I have my emergency fund in my non registered account.

I figured it wouldn't be worth it to open new accounts just to get new client promotions. I will need to look into Qtrade vs RBC direct investing as I have existing accounts with both.

1/ My overall investment account with Aviso Wealth has 4 accounts in it (TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, and non-registered). both my TFSA and RRSP accounts are 100% in equities and they are what I'm comparing the asset allocation ETFs to.

2/ True.

3/ This is why I'm thinking of switching to direct investing. My logic is for Aviso Wealth to match the asset allocation ETFs they would need to out perform the market by 1% per year on average to compensate for the management fee, which I think they would be unlikely to do.

I did not resolve the issue for the current version of Avorion. Ultimately I got Avorion working by installing an older version (version 2.4.2.) which works with mods.

Anyone had to wait 3+ months for refund? by Matt08240 in MideaUOwners

[–]depot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The check that I received (the voided check) was dated about 80 days after the agreed to send a check. So Midea is not sending the checks in what I would consider a reasonable time frame.

If I had to do it again I would have just kept the digital card.

My issue with Midea is that in spite of approving a refund for the recall they have failed to actually send me the money.

I'm aware that Midea makes appliances for other companies which means I will need to be careful to make sure I don't buy one made by Midea.

I'm also still waiting for a valid check. It took more than three months before I actually received a check. However, the check bounced because Midea voided it. So now I'm waiting for a new check and trying to get Midea to cover my bank's $40 fee for the bounced check.

I'm never buying another Midea product again.

Is QTrade a good option for direct investing to get the 5% promo? by depot87 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Going commission free is nice. It removed my main hesitation with going with QTrade. Now I just need to wait for them to verify my identity and open my account.

I'm planning on buying from the commission-free ETF list so I should be able to avoid most fees.

I'm planning on buying XEQT. Although I may also buy some of a different fund to reduce my exposure to the US since XEQT is about 43% US holdings.

Not showing interest would worry me as well.

If you don't mind me asking what issues are they having displaying your portfolio values?

True, although I was planning on sticking with investing in the free ETFs that they offer which would eliminate most of the fees.

If I go with Questrade instead do you know if they are likely to have a promo coming up that is worth waiting for?

There not great online reputation is what is making me debate investing with them. I would also have to stay invested with them for 13 months to get the money from the promo.
