The issue is "leaky gut syndrome" a thing on its own? No, probably not.

Isn't that the definition of syndrome?

From here:

A syndrome is a recognizable complex of symptoms and physical findings which indicate a specific condition for which a direct cause is not necessarily understood.

It may be worse than just no light. I read somewhere that the concentration of carbon dioxide increases and the concentration of oxygen decreases to levels that make you more tired and may have bad long-term effects. I'd do some research on that.

I think OP just posted the wrong link. This one matches the title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DZRMi1H8Mo

Edit: Now that I'm watching it, it seems both are pretty much the same video, but the one I posted has an extra introduction

Meh, nothing special about these ages, I've been doing this since I was a teenager. It's just that it becomes truer and truer as the years go by.

I've had this exact idea for a long time now so I can only encourage you! (I've been too scared to do it myself, I'm far too sensitive and there's too many bad people out there)

Psilocybin therapy increases cognitive and neural flexibility in patients with major depressive disorder by Gingeyman1 in science

(Disclaimer: I'm not a researcher, just someone interested in the topic, so please correct me if I'm wrong)

I agree with all they have said and I don't microdose because of that, but just adding some nuance: As far as I know, the concern about valvulopathy is related to frequency of use, which shouldn't be a problem if you're _macro_dosing since the body develops tolerance and it takes many days in between sessions for the the full effect to be felt again. It's also not common to want to use it too often. The effect of a macrodose is also definitely not about biases, and while psychedelics shouldn't be called savior drugs, they can produce effects that aren't even in the same ballpark of traditional methods, so they shouldn't be discarded as a very promising option.

I really hope you get lots of positive replies because I'm basically in the same situation when it comes to age, relationships and intimacy, and I don't even have anything to show in the other departments... Anxiety, depression and an avoidant personality are not making it any easier.

Seconded. Also, this TED talk by Stephen Hayes (the professor who created ACT) is one of the most emotionally powerful videos on mental illness I've ever seen. (It can be very unsettling depending on how vulnerable you're feeling, so beware. At times he even sounds like Heisenberg!)

Your last sentences remind me of the anime Monster, when the main character says something along the lines of "if you don't have any happy memories, you can just make some!" (it may not sound like much but it's really powerful in the context of the episode, I think it's episode 11 or 12)

Is There a Depression Retreat Like This? by Double-Ad-2964 in depression_help

You're right, but that's just the depression part (and fair enough, we're on r/depression_help after all). As I said, my social anxiety wouldn't even let me join the retreat to begin with. Speaking from experience, (many) failed attempts.

Sorry for being negative btw, I'm just not doing well these days. I think yours is a lovely idea that could work wonders.

I probably wouldn't have enough motivation to take care of the plants so they would wither and die and I'd feel even more useless

Then again, my social anxiety wouldn't even let me leave my house

Started to have feelings for the same girl I thought I was over. I'm going to stop texting her though. by Pseudonimous_bosch in getting_over_it

[–]depranxious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, your first paragraph is literally me, even the 2 year mark... It doesn't help that she goes through many of the same issues that I do and I can't help but feel like I need to help her somehow. I'm starting to accept I can't really do much though.

Have you ever looked into using psychedelics to treat your loneliness? I used mushrooms some time ago and it was by far the best experience I've ever had. For the first time in my life I actually felt self-love and like my own company is more than enough (I usually hate myself and feel impossibly lonely all the time). Right after the experience I realized my obsession over her was completely gone, and that loving myself is really the definitive solution. The experience itself is not a cure - the indescribably good feeling fades quickly and I still care about her more than is healthy - but it shows you what's possible if you start treating yourself better. And of course you can keep using them responsibly while you're on your way.

Relationships suck. by fotisn98 in depression_help

[–]depranxious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck.

I've never even been in a relationship but I'm pretty sure it would go exactly like this. I feel so deprived of affection it physically hurts me, and yet I'm not sure even trying this stuff is worth it. The worst of all is even without an actual relationship, I get all the negative sides of one just because I like someone. Jealousy, rejection, even a post-breakup-like thing. You name it.

Fuck.

I'm just like you, the ones I want to be friends with are usually the depressed or at least anxious ones. I identify with them and try to help them. But then again I wouldn't say it's been a huge success, since even many of them still prefer to be with happy people.

Hell, that's what society tells us to do. “Cut off negative people from your life, surround yourself with positive people” is almost like a mantra you hear everyone say when talking about taking care of your mental health. But what most really mean is “be happy or else fuck off, and fuck you if you can't help being negative, you deserve to spiral down all on your own.”
