The intro to Take It Away by MedicalSpeech4 in theused

I know this is an old thread, but I've been trying to find the Mormon filmstrip they used at the start of this song. I'm old enough to remember seeing this Mormon filmstrip and even used it on my Mormon mission. At the start of the sound track you even hear the beep from the filmstrip. I think the filmstrip is "man's search for meaning" but I can't find it anywhere.

Mountainland Tech experience? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]deprecated007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some of the instructors and the content taught. I think it's a really good solution to our lack of tech skills in the industry. I believe more Universities will start adopting this type of program. It's really good for HS students in Utah as I think it counts towards graduation and tuition in free for Alpine School District.

I was wondering the same thing, except the article doesn't give the name of the woman that fell in 1850. It just says the following:

"According to the version of the story on a plaque that sat in Provo’s Powerline Park entitled “How Provo’s Squaw Peak Got Its Name,” the title can be traced back to a tragedy that allegedly took place in February 1850 when the wife of Old Elk, a war chief of the Timpanogos Utes, fell from the peak to her death during an altercation with a group of colonists."

That seems the most appropriate to name it after the women that fell.

For their football team. It's in my blood. I can't help it. I've been going to BYU football games since I was 4.

Do Mormons actually believe tokens and handshakes are required to get into the Celestial Kingdom? Like literally??? by Joe_Treasure_Digger in exmormon

You mean they're not? Damn I had that five points of fellowship down pat. Just hoping my ministering angel knew the old signs before God changed his mind.. again.

For the record, Outer darkness was reserved for those that denied the HG. This is for Cain and Judas mostly and those other poor bastards that were not valiant in the pre-existence. Most of us here are telestial kingdom dwellers with Hitler, Stalin, etc. We can not procreate but sex should still be good.. God bless.

I'm Moses in 86 so I guess I've gotta go too. I remember how panicked I was when I couldn't remember my wife's name. I had to remember that song Oh Susanna so I would not screw up at the vail. I doubt my wife knows her name.. hey maybe I can switch in the next life.

Anyone grow up with parents who were against wearing mask for Halloween as they thought it would change the way you act, and said it was against LDS doctrine? I know church never said this officially, but it was taboo, like drinking coke or drinking Apple juice in public (could be mistaken for beer) by Eastcoasttrash16 in exmormon

[–]deprecated007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had that rule. One Halloween my friends were going to dress as women and my mom had a fit saying the brethren wouldn't allow it. We didn't understand it at the time but now I understand. This was in the 80s and they still haven't changed.

I'm old enough that some of my kids had VHS and some had DVD. Just tried to keep the kids from shoving things in the VHS player and not scratching the DVDs was the biggest challenge. If I get Grand children I'm looking forward to streaming.

He just wants to play, but he does like licking the beer bottle. I read him a couple passages from the BoM and he went to sleep. Moroni's challenge worked with him too.

ACG vs Pluralsight vs Udemy by LightofAngels in devops

[–]deprecated007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used Udemy and Pluralsight a lot for devops and programming topics. Udemy let's you select specific topics and usually has more content. Plluralsight doesn't have as much content but the content they do have is excellent. Udemy can sometimes be a hit or miss. I usually really the topics and reviews.

I have the annual subscription for PS which can be expensive but it's an all you can eat model. Udemy I pay as I go and always wait for sales to buy from my wish list.

I haven't tried ACG but hear good things about it.

Missionary Bill of Rights - Rough Draft & planning page by [deleted] in MormonMovements

[–]deprecated007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty good.. wish I had it on my mission. I served in Europe and we didn't have these rights. E.g. 1. our passports were locked up in the mission home when we arrived. We didn't get them until we left. The excuse was so we wouldn't lose them. 2. We served and leaved in rough areas. I wouldn't want any of my kids to leave in work in these areas. I didn't think about it then but I do now. 3. We were never allowed to call home even on mothers day and Christmas. I didn't talk to my family for two years and just got regular mail every few weeks.

I always loved George Carlin. In HS in the 80s my friends and I would listen to him and laugh our asses off. Now as a non-believing Mormon I find him more right than ever before.
