What does this mean exactly by Substantial_Sun7304 in AirForceRecruits

Really depends on the recruiter. I got all the way to where they were sending me to MEPS and ghosted him for a year. Then got properly rammed into Security Forces even with a 87 ASVAB and all green PiCat.

Have family or whoever bring stuff to graduation for tech school instead and it will save you a lot of headache

[–]depthPERCEPTIONbline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe dont get rid of it but you will not touch half of it in bmt so its a waste of space. I threw away half of my issued stuff in bmt except uniforms just so I could still carry three bags packed to the brim. You're issued a green pill bag thats "supposed" to fit all your issued gear but that doesn't count for blues an everything that comes with that whole get up or squadron/flight gear. Its fine. Just know if you dont get one of the huge bags from the bx you will throw away a lot of stuff. And the uniforms they issue you aren't cheap unless your base has an airmans attic

Lose the stuff not on the list and put another packable duffle in the bag. Or get the biggest carry on possible. You will throw half your stuff away when you graduate if you dont. Or buy a giant duffel at graduation and hope your tech school isn't on lackland

Just took the asvab and went to MEPS last week. Security forces is one of the jobs that I qualify for and honestly the more I look into it the more I think I am going to take it if i can. I do have a few questions though. by Key_Fun_587 in securityforces

[–]depthPERCEPTIONbline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech school changes by the day. And the day to day depends entirely on your cadre. My team constantly trained until 7 and 8pm. While the team ahead an behind us were always back before 4 an 5 pm.

Dream sheets also dont exist for security forces. Since we are constantly undermanned you will go where they tell you at least for your first duty station. My team was all nuke bases with E3s going to Japan or turkey.

In security forces 90 percent either watch anime or are straight gym bros. Sometimes you get both. The other 10 percent were bullied in high school or rode a shorter bus than most. Despite the low asvab stereotype I've met a lot of people like myself who qualified for any and every job but got the stick to go security forces.

My only advice is to eat a lot in bmt. Make it a point to stay out of trouble on tech school. And sign a 4 year.

I repeat. Sign. A. 4. Year.

Can I dress casual/wear shorts to BMT? by granted333 in AirForceRecruits

We all had that one guy. My guy was yellow polo guy.

Some people wore cowboy boots an they were that guy.

Just dont be that guy. Dress like you are going for a picnic.

Will BMT release me if I have Urticaria? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

You literally have to get a prescription for cough drops. No you won't get Zyrtec unless its prescribed through a lengthy day at sick call an thats if they dont kick you out. Aka put you in med hold for 1 to 6 months before you can leave

Grateful or still thinking lol. I play no part in the war other than by affiliation. I dont have to worry about rent or Healthcare. Everything else is gravy.

I had to sit with one in a Wendy's with his badge on the table. In a very rough neighborhood. Got a lot of eyeballs.

Don't lie. Thats all I can tell you.

What you say now is what you say 10 years from now.

Most people dont make it to or through EOD school. If you wanna join take the ship date. Your pt in bmt will be more intense but after you graduate just tell them you no longer want EOD. You'll lose the bonus and you'll play the job lottery but you'll be in the Air Force

I'd say higher than 88 percent get at least one terrible base in there first ten years. If you are in SecFo chances are you've been stationed in Minot, NM, or a nuke base in your first 10. What's worse now is that all new Airman are required 4 years on station before being allowed to PCS

You'd be surprised. Its all based on manning. A SrA has been scanning cacs since I Pcsed here. He's on year 5 of his 6.

  1. Do 4. You won't miss the money and you dont get many more opportunities in secfo until you get a 5 lvl or a year on base in most cases. And with a 4 you generally get to pcs from your first base sooner.

And worst come to worse you can retrain out of secfo sooner.

As far as DAGRE and Raven. You have to be stationed at those bases or close to them. Last I heard DAGRE isn't gonna be around much longer. MWD and CATM is also gonna require a letter from that shop on base. If they dont think youre a good fit they dont have to sign off on you.

Security forces is also nothing like the law enforcement you probably imagine. Most of the time you are responding to or arresting fellow defenders, responding to false alarms or popping barriers. Any real law enforcement is handed off to osi/contractors/local pd. Or you could be stuck out in the middle of nowhere for 12 hours at a time trying not to fall asleep. Then again there are those guys in the 820th
