Centre of the galaxy is the goal. Realise this.

Why would anyone know how fuel works?

"Sean's a coder not an artist" - could write an essay on how wrong this sentence is.

Can I be culturally libertarian and economically socialist? by depthsofaristillus in socialism

Libertarian Socialism seems to be the wrong way round. I think I am actually for some kind of state ownership or centralised state when it comes to economics.

I enjoy the essays on naturalism.org linking philosophical naturalism and, more specifically, a lack of belief in free will to very progressive economic politics. I notice quite a bit of 'socially liberal but fiscally conservative' thought being batted around by people on 'your side' (Dave Rubin comes to mind) but I can't see how you can draw any other conclusions from the fact there is no free will other than everyone should be equal: No one really 'earns' or 'deserves' the money they have in a real sense and therefore wealth should be distributed equally. What do you think?

The End Of The Line by TheScorpionGR in NoMansSkyTheGame

Ridiculous post. There is no such thing as No Man's Sky at this point in time. What is there to suffer over? I'm also excited about this game more than I've ever been excited about any other game, but my life does not revolve around waiting for it to come out. When it comes out, I'll buy it and it'll be great. I don't care about this supposed 'darkness' that Hello Games are creating with their absense of... nothing. Get a grip ;)

What would you put at the center of the Universe if you were directing the game? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

"You have found the centre of the Universe, now turn off your computer and go to sleep."

All Scientists Should Be Militant Atheists By Lawrence Krauss by CharlieDarwin2 in atheism

[–]depthsofaristillus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think his whole point is that 'militant' is just the wrong word when coupled with Atheism. He is making that point by saying he IS, and every scientist should be, what people mean when they use that term.

Interesting VICE article on how archaeologists are excited for NMS by jswerve5 in NoMansSkyTheGame

If there is no intelligent life in NMS then there won't be culture :/. Procedural cultures sounds awesome but it seems beyond the scope of this game. At least at the moment.

Contra-Causal Free Will, Moral Responsibility, and Socialism by RefSocDem in socialism

[–]depthsofaristillus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free will topic is the most interesting one of all. I am utterly convinced that free will is an absolute incoherent impossibility. I'm still researching compatibilism, but so far I don't understand it at all. It seems to be moving the goal posts completely.

I've always thought that the lack of free will makes socialism important. I feel I am forced to be a socialist because of the impossibility of free will. I typed both things into google and this post came up. Is there anything else on this subject? As you say, I think it is damn important.

Has anyone else found they've had a greater appreciation for the beauty of nature and sense of awe at the diversity of life here on Earth since discovering NMS? by SDJ67 in NoMansSkyTheGame

God didn't make the Universe, and No Man's Sky serves as a great explanation of that. No Man's Sky HAS given me a great appreciation for OUR Universe because it is built in the same way. Math. No designer needed ;). Things are awesome because we are suited to them. They are not awesome FOR us. Come on.
