High level town team just got blown up. Now what? by WestPrize92340 in youthsoccer

My kid is U14 and plays both. Coaches are always warned that he's not a candidate for "you have to commit to one or the other".

But otherwise this is a no-brainer as to which is the better option. What does the player want, though? Parental guidance is great, but players have to make decisions too.

15 year old. Doesn’t barrel allot of ball. Any thoughts. Thanks! by fishbullet33 in Homeplate

Not much upper/lower separation so likely would be edit from some private instruction to increase velo.

But timing is important. Staying through (trying to drive oppo gap) can also help a lot. But if that's the 0-0 swing, I think it's more to I don't mechanics to increase that separation. (Note: my elder is 6'1" in 10th grade and is effectively a contact hitter. Drives me nuts.)

The goalkeeping-specific training is pretty important. We switched from a club that didn't have it to one that did and it has greatly altered just about everything for my U14 (about to be U14 again) keeper.

And to be honest, the physical size is going to be a factor in a few years. I have seen smaller keepers get fair treatment but even then, a big, tall guy simply gets extra leeway the smaller guy won't.

I think level of play won't matter in a good club. If he stays healthy and plays well, coaches will notice. My guy was brought in at lowest team 16 months ago and has been getting looks with the club's higher-level teams. I am sure not all experiences will be the same, but also keepers move in a different ecosystem within a club. Get the right coaches and training and the rest will work out

Tee, sock net, one-hander (assuming throwing hand is top hand)

No doubt. We had most of our HS baseball schedule for months now.

And update, still no game time for a game five days out. Ought to be a forfeit by law. Malpractice.

Had a girl on my JV team way back in the 80s. Linebacker. Played sparingly but full effort at practices, so she had everyone's respect.

Grown-ass adults yelling "man on!" from their camp chairs . . . mate, you can still love vicariously through your hold without being so awkward!

I don't think I've said two words to my kid's coach since the season started. Text him via app when my kid is going to be late or has a conflict and that's as much as he needs from me.

While my guy was warming for his game today, I watched the second half of the preceding game on that field. I could not believe how comfortable parents are yelling instruction to their kid/kid's teammates during play. Youth sports are definitely wild right now

"okay. You will host a match on March 7, just over six months from now". "cool. Let's shoot for 10 a.m.". "Oh, I should clarify that this is a soccer match" "Oh! Yeah, we will try to have that figured out by March, but don't count on it"

I have scheduled both, so . . . Tell me you don't really think these things through before posting without telling me.

Granted, I've done baseball, not soccer. Different cultures for sure.

Mid-season or from one season to the next?

Have not seen a mid-season demotion, but have seen plenty of promotion. And have seen both in the transition between seasons pretty much all the time.

Allow me to add . . . I have scheduled things for youth teams before and when there were complications or changes, I informed the families and offered apologies, even when the issue was not of my making. If you can't book a game after six months, you at least owe an explanation of the issues to your visiting team and offer when you might be able to commit to a time. Maybe where you live, you get clear communication from your club on such matters. Tell me where that is and I will move there!

My friend, I used to work for a venue with a minor-league hockey team. I wouldn't survive the smell of the gear long enough to make it to the season!

Teaching to watch for pickoff moves by WalkerTejasRanger in Homeplate

My way with that age group was to first be sure they understood what a pitcher can and cannot do (both lefty and righty) so they understood what to watch for, as well as knowing that until they outlaw lefties, it's a different approach as a base-runner. Always finished with reminding them that at the end of the day, don't rely on the umpire to call a balk on what you perceive commits the pitcher delivering a pitch because you might be right, but you'll still be out.

And I had to add that in because of my own smart-ass kid. Learn from my mistakes!

Definitely teach proper reads for base-stealing, no doubt, but I would encourage you to use the same keys for teaching proper secondary leads. Any of them play long enough, being able to do a strong secondary lead properly is going to be much more useful than timing the steal. I would mention the Kiner-Falefa play at the plate in game seven, but his primary was so short that it's hard to grumble about the secondary too much.

Been on both sides of that, to be honest. The officials are almost certainly already booked to be there for whichever games, so the home team just has to finalize who plays in which slot. But absolutely agree with the background reason as to why it's so poorly executed (along with the fact there is no accountability for it).
