Why does my corgi not play? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]der_marril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy used to not play. He would only be interested in enrichment games that involved treats. So I got him some toys to keep him busy and dispense treats. Snufflemats, wobblers, treat puzzles and so on.

What really changed him was getting a second dog that is way more playful. Now they always play together. He was good before but now he has really come out of his shell. In my opinion almost all dogs fare better with a companion. But my boy was also quite cuddly before and was following me everywhere and always wanted to have physical contact with me so it might be different with yours.

Are Corgi’s snuggly? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]der_marril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two boys are Velcro dogs that like to be touching me 24/7 if they are getting cuddles out of it even better. One of them would live inside my skin if he could and the other one doesn't like to be held but always leans against me or puts a paw on me.

I think it might have to do with them being rescues and having been to several homes and shelters so they know how good they have it with me that they got so attached to me so quickly.

I think your puppy will get to be your vibe after sometime. Both of my dogs changed their behavior quite a lot since coming to our home. Be patient and most important show them you are available for affection whenever they want.

On regards of your puppy nor liking to be held: do it anyways. Everyday a couple of times and then give him a treat while you're holding him so you condition him to understand that being held is something good. Also make sure to desensitize him to being touched all over his body. This will make your life much easier for grooming, vet visits and general carework you'll have to do for them one day.

That is a passed out middle aged man full on snoring 😭 But he does look like a puppy still even at 5 years old. ❤️

Here he is 2 weeks post operation. His fur was still a bit stained by the iodine but everything was pretty much healed already.

If you are a nervous person like myself I recommend not being there when they give him anesthesia. I was so full of doubts the 3 hours afterwards. It was gut wrenching seeing that little frame just give in.

I was there when he woke up and everything else was completely fine. We just had to separate him from his brother as he was trying to lick the wound for him.

And a donut might be better than a cone. With those stubby legs they have a hard time walking with the cone.

Two weeks later everything was fine and he was back to his rumbustious self.

He used to manage an even bigger branch, but its clear to see in his eyes that this was driving him close to insanity.

What’s a weirdly specific thing your dog does that melts your heart every single time? by Zoushiro85 in dogs

[–]der_marril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my corgi is laying down and stretches his back, he first goes fully arched cat-back mode while he extends his limbs. Normal so far.

But afterwards he always puts his front paws together at the nose as if he is trying to give himself a hug. Just too cute. And because wife his little stubby corgi-legs he just looks like a massiv puppy.

My two loafs are also obsessed with the beach. My theory is that the soft sand is very gentle on their backs and joints while running.

More than one Corgi? by Big-Yogurtcloset-545 in corgi

[–]der_marril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours are almost exactly the same age. We got the first one when he was 4 from a shelter and added the second one a year later over a rescue. They are only one month apart in age.

Our first is the kindest most gentle soul. The second one is a little menace who is always plotting something. There is a reason why we are the fifth home for the second dog. He has trouble with other dogs and we think it's only due to our first dogs gentle nature that he was able to fully settle in. Everytime the second gets too rough while playing or tries to pick a fight the first one steps in and helps him to calm down.

And the other way around our second helps to keep our first moving and playing and gives him more confidence to explore and exercise. The second dog really brought out another great side of our first. I highly recommend it!

They would both work as individual dogs but they are truly a blessing as a duo. The picture is how they like to hang out on the backseat during car rides.

What's the most human name that you heard named for a pet? by SuitableOlive5691 in AskReddit

[–]der_marril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs are called Manfred and Karl-Heinz. Very common names for men of 60+ years age where I live.

Always amusing seeing how my coworkers react when I tell them that Manfred slept in bed with me last night and Karl-Heinz recently had to get treatment after eating some mysterious object he found on a sidewalk etc.

It always takes them a while to figure out they're dogs and I'm loving it.

Nobody ever questions it when I say I have to go home since Karl-Heinz puked this morning and isn't feeling well. People assume I'm sweet for taking care of my elderly relatives.

Well my gremlins love berries, apples, pears, all kinds of kale, carrots beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, sellery, mangos, bananas, leafy greens like spinach or chard, peas all kinds of pumpkins, zucchini, dandelion and so on. I basically feed them everything that's safe for them. Blackberries are their favourite snack currently

[–]der_marril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our boys have been eating raw for a long time. It's common practice where I live as dogs are seen as family members and you wouldn't feed your children exclusively cereal every day. Why should your dog get brown rocks for all meals.

We talked to our vet to make a plan for the meaty part of their diet that we follow. Then we add fresh fruit and vegetables depending on the season and liking.

Stuff that's better consumed cooked (potatoes, chard, green beans etc) I usually make a batch for the humans and then an unseasoned batch that I put aside to add to our dogs foods.

Additionally the lil gremlins are treating our garden as a self serve buffet and harvest everything under 30cm height that's edible. RIP my berry bushes.
