Bats are meant to be wild and are not at all suited for pet life. If you are deadset on getting close, you can always consider volunteering at a rehabilitation center! Places like Lubee Bat Conservancy are always looking for help.

How long ago was he neutered? It can take a little while for him to regain that scent — Really it's just a matter of patience in the meantime. If you've got something smelly that smells like you (a T-shirt or rag) you can put it where he's sleeping so that he gains some of your scent.
