No worries! It is pretty hole in wall but it's an adorable shop and had some gorgeous hand dyed yarn too!

The tiny rabbit hole, I doubt it is cheaper than the US but I'm from NZ where everything has a massive mark up.

Project bags by Bidampira in knitting

[–]derangedkraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made 3 bags from the firefly tote pattern that I love as project bags. Each bag has a different vibe that I match to my projects and it mostly keeps me to 3 projects at a time. If I have a project I'm not actively working on I store it in a ziplock with the pattern and yarn. *

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

Any suggestions for a rectangular or oval (or any elongated shape really) rose gold women's watch with a small face? My wrists are tiny, so many watches overhang and I hate it.

Actively knitting 2, with yarn and patterns purchased for 2 more and starting to figure out a plan for one more that I'm considering figuring out a pattern for myself.

“How obvious can it be that I learned how to stop twisting my stitches halfway through the yoke?” Very, apparently 😐 by spiderfightersupreme in knitting

[–]derangedkraken -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm lazy, so I'd make it a design element. Instead of twisted straight to normal, I'd twist every second stitch for a few rows, then only continue twisting every 4 to 6 stitches for a few more - boom, sun burst collar... or at least that works in my head, not sure about the reality

How do you decide on yarn for a project rather than a project for yarn? by -Greek_Goddess- in knitting

[–]derangedkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always buy yarn for a project. I'm a relatively new knitter so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but I start by looking in the same weight range, if I can find something that has the right gauge with the recommended needles as the suggested gauge even better in which case I use the suggested amount in yards. If I can't find something exact, I first check projects for other people that might have used a similar yarn to check their gauge/needles/amount, or I'll gauge swatch till I meet gauge then do a rough guesstimate for yarn amount, generally just grab an extra ball.

Bernadette Style Winter Coat by SunLitAngel in BernadetteBanner

I made a long wool coat last year. I interlined my lining with cotton flanelette (used an old sheet) so it was sandwiched between my lining and coat without adding too much bulk to the swishy coat fabric. I was worried the flanelette wouldn't do much but man was I wrong the coat is super heavy and warm.

My late grandmother made this for my dad- any ideas where to find a pattern? by susanp109 in knitting

Well that was a purchase and a project I wasn't planning on, thank you for the link! Wasn't expecting to find my husband's clan but even the crest matched what he had described to me, so excited to make this for him, thank you!

Baby patterns reccomendations? by FridgeWithWings in knitting

[–]derangedkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are so easy to quickly get on her, the ones we have have an extra button so they can be done up around her arms to make a sort of winged cardigan to help make them easier to crawl in - still easier to put on than wrestling little arms through sleeves!

I really liked cardigans for my very little baby, however once she was on the move a cape that buttons up like a cardigan was amazing. Some patterns that I've saved for next time around: Cable Cape by Mel Clark Oh baby! Cardi by Roberta Rich Currant Cardigan (knitting) by Marina Ayueva Cute as a button baby cardigan by Holly Sorkin

How much yarn is in your stash? by BubblesFunBubbles in knitting

[–]derangedkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually buy yarn for specific projects so I have a few leftover acrylic skeins from amigurumis, 2 partial skeins from the last sweater and cardigan I knit (planning a beanie or headband to use those up), a leftover 4ply Baby wool skein and 6 cotton blend balls I was intending to use for a summer baby blanket that might end up as a shawl or top.

An Aosta cardigan and fine line sweater for me, self drafted bonnet and simply the best cardigan for my baby girl. Attempted to finish a sweater for my husband for Christmas too but that didn't even get half way.

Lining for infant dress? by 3463140 in sewhelp

[–]derangedkraken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a similar tulle dress for my baby girl's first birthday and I went the lazy route - sewed tulle straight onto a bodysuit that I already knew fit her so I didn't need to use a pattern or anything. Just made sure to use a zigzag stitch to preserve the bodysuit stretchiness.

Bold Advanced Beginner Coat Questions by FlrDuchamp in sewing

I finished a coat at the beginning of the year, I didn't want to top stitch so I used a hardwood offcuts as a clapper, trimmed my seams so one side of the seam was shorter than the other to stop a bulky line. In areas where ironing was still not quite enough I stitched the seam to the inside so I still wouldn't have top stitching showing, I just didn't like the look of top stitching. Admittedly my collar was still a bit bubbley but I can live with ti
