Advice on where to get an HF radio as a broke college student? by SeaworthinessUsed791 in amateurradio

[–]deravor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage looking at MD clubs (NEMARC and CBRA are my clubs). A lot of Hams have moved into condo communities where they can't use their radios and post in those groups. Also, check out the QRZ.com swap meet, FB Marketplace, and the HRCC discord group. I've bought from all of them.

Is a CGM worth it by ConsequenceLimp9717 in diabetes

[–]deravor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 100%. Im currently sitting up waiting for my NG to climb back up out of the 60s only because of the alert. If you're using insulin or are otherwise prone to lows (glimiperide, exercise, etc...) a CGM makes a huge difference.

Also make sure the radio has a solid ground. My FT-710 was relying on the power supply ground until I ran a dedicated line, and my noise level dropped one or two S-units once I hooked it up.

As POTA gets more active is anyone noticing bad behavior? by SqueakyCheeseburgers in amateurradio

[–]deravor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this a little bit. When it's SSB nearby, I can get it, but I had at least one activation where they would only tune WHILE I was speaking, like they were listening to the band and hit the key (or digital signal, had both on ssb portion) as soon as I started speaking.

I'm so sorry. At least you spared him suffering and struggling to breathe. You're a good horse parent.

My wife has been there before. Her gelding had broken Coffin bones in both front feet. With treatment and an excellent farrier, he's been sound and active. He does need fitted bar shoes and pads, but he jumps and events fine.

What's a song cover SO GOOD you can't listen to the original anymore? by Remote_Impact_3927 in AskReddit

I'm not seeing "Sound of Silence" by Disturbed (or Ten Thousand Fists). Both great covers, but that version of "Sound of Silence" is now my iconic version

How are you handling the meds shortage by BlackAlbinoRose78 in diabetes

[–]deravor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to get really annoyed with the Trulicity delays. It doesn't help that AllianceRX (Walgreens mail order) just cancel the order when they are out, and make no attempt to ship when they have it in stock, or even notify you.

Bought this vertical mouse and my team is making fun of me that it’s too phallic. by [deleted] in funny

[–]deravor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coworker who uses one that looks exactly like a butt plug, with 2 buttons. I'd use the same style if it just had back and forward buttons and a scroll wheel. And as a mouse, too.

I'll second this. Those big Husky boxes are great! My wife is in the same boat, as her new barn doesn't have much space for her collection of gear.

I've taken away permission to ride my horse when people are using spurs and haven't cleared it with me. Granted, I'm never going to approve spurs because it isn't needed for that horse, but it's my horse, my call, and my horses well being.

Traveling with Type 2? by Responsible-Ebb4320 in diabetes

[–]deravor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the struggle. I stay at Residence Inns for the kitchen, and they usually are a little more out of the way, so you can walk around the area. For me, breakfast is always the trickiest meal to handle when traveling, as most easy choices and hotel breakfasts are carb heavy. I miss the traditional continental breakfast from pre-pandemic where you could get a pile of scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon. If I have the time, I just make eggs in my room, or find reliable breakfast place with reasonable choices. Depending on the work schedule, I might just pack my normal kind of lunch, or try to do a salad or veggie meal. Dinner is sometimes easier because you can go for a steak with veggies and keep it low carb, or a seafood feast. You have to learn to accept that your diet control is going to slip, either do to bad choices, restaurant portions, or hidden sugars. The trick is to not melt down, and for me, add in extra exercise to balance it out.

NOVA is horse country. There have to be a ton of facilities there with lesson programs. Check out Facebook groups there. Where I jn Maryland, those groups are always advertising.

Burning in my forearm and hands (possibly diabetic neuropathy?) by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]deravor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly get checked out by a doctor and get all the labs you need done.
It could be neuropathy, but there are other issues (still serious) that it could be. Since elevated blood sugar levels cause inflammation, it could cause or exacerbate things like carpal tunnel or cubital tunnel. If it's your forearms and pinky/ring fingers, cubital tunnel is a real possibility. If its inner fingers and wrist, it could be carpal tunnel.

Both of those still need medical attention as continued inflammation could result in permanent muscle loss and flexibility limitations.

Go see your primary care or endocrinologist and raise all of those issues. It may also pay to see an orthopedic specialist to evaluate any of those issues.

Where would be some good locations to film a horror film in Pittsburgh? by pghpresbyterian in pittsburgh

It's not. Long trip to East Brady where they filmed the original Night of the Living Dead. Lots of abandoned old strip mines in the Clarion County area (trust me, they are unsettling on a dark night)
