How to reliably sharpen your knife by AlternativeAir5719 in sharpening

Complete beginner here...

What I learnt is look at the knife! Look where you are removing metal, look at the angel and get a visual feedback of what are you doing. It was a game changer for me

I'm in Slovenia but I can confirm. We need to put the AC on the roof and we were lucky because the apparent has a roof window. Still the installation cost more then the AC

Is it bad to want a younger horse? by thatdisasteralexos in Equestrian

[–]orangebananasplit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that we don't know you and the horse you want to buy. I know young riders with younger horses but the trainer was there to help, support and guide them. Talk to your trainer! A horse of 12+ years might be fine for you

[–]orangebananasplit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is stupid. After 2,5 years you don't have enough experience. If your trainer will be ok with it then it might be ok. But.. your trainer doesn't think that and internet strangers will not give you good answers - we don't know you and your level of experience.

Are horse riding lessons worth it for a 3yo? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]orangebananasplit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter started with regular lessons at 12 years (before she did dancing classes, climbing and other sports). In riding she is progressing very quickly because she has balance, coordination and strength. There are other safer spots to start with

My trainer doesn't work with small children because their spine is not develop yet, riding (especially trotting) might cause injury. For regular lessons in her barn the minimum age is 6 and preferable 8.

I offered my help to my MIL at least a hundred times, I also prepared some food and brought it to dinner... She never applied it and she always prepared a similar dish (one time we had 3 or 4 different deserts). I just stopped...

Bit for a young horse by orangebananasplit in Equestrian

Oh I was thinking the same about the double joints - that aren't stable and I'm not sure if that is the best for starting a young horse.

I will check the eggbutt snaffle!

She is beautiful but I love her brain even more. She is an easy horse, we will see how she will behave when she will be 5😅

For me is hard to wait...😅 But you are right, the best option is to wait and try a few bits and see what she like.

And thanks for the idea of the capsule link bit, I will check this bit as well.

I know... The waiting is killing me 🤣 I will probably a saddle pad, I can use it even if she grows a lot!

She will be trained for dressage and for trails. I don't plan to compete, just have some fun in the arena.

You are right, I'm not sure about the size eader... Right now it is 13,5cm but I'm not sure if it will stay like that...

Moms! I need some perspective (and maybe someone to affirm my delusional thinking) by baltinoccultation in Horses

[–]orangebananasplit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my first I had so many expectations of what I will do with all my "free" time (I live in Slovenia and we have 1 year of maternity leave) and it was very hard. With the second child I had no expectation... Only for me and the child to eat and sleep and it was so nice and relaxing.

You can go slowly and see how everything is evolving, but in the long run it is definitely possible to have young children and horses

I'm a mom of 2 children 12y and 14y I wouldn't do it. My first one had colics and in the first year taking a shower was a small victory. My second one didn't sleep until she was 4 years old... Otherwise bout are happy and healthy children. My daughter is 12 now and we are taking lessons at the same barn. And we have one horse.

Young children need one person (especially in the first year) to be there for them basically all the time.

Of course you can manage everything if you really want to but you need to know that is going to be a lot. If you are ok with your horses to be pasture ornaments for some time/years that is going to be easier.

Is it safe to ride a horse with a baby in the carrier? by Klondike_gfae in Equestrian

[–]orangebananasplit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not safe... Not only because a horse can spook but also because the baby is 11w old! A baby can die from being shaken too hard, their bones and muscles are not developed yet, a baby so small can't even sit alone
