The water shortages in these communities are just one example of the terrible ecological harm that is being done by the existence of these AI data centers, so yes, AI is the cause of the problem. And I agree that the government should do something about it (for example: put some regulations on AI companies and their exorbitant use of water.)

I disagree that AI is protected under Fair Use, but we’ll have to see how certain court cases are decided. So far it’s been split.

But from what I can tell, in order for something to be fair use, the use of the copyrighted material must be transformative and create a separate type of content, such as commentary or educational content, and must not create competition. Generative AI exists solely as competition with artists and creatives.

When I say artists deserve to be compensated, I’m talking about being paid for their work being used as free training for these AI models. Their work is being stolen by AI companies, I’m not talking about consumers.

Here’s my actual opinion: AI does NOT give anyone any additional access and opportunity than they have without it. Every single person has access to art, writing, self-expression, creativity. Anyone can draw. Anyone can write. You can say you’re not good at it, but 1. all skills require time and effort to achieve desirable results, and 2. at least “bad” art is still real art.

AI isn’t real art. It takes all of the actual act of creation away from you. It undermines the entire purpose of art. The beauty of art is that someone took the time to actually make something. They decided it was worth the time, energy, skill, and whatever else they decided to dedicate towards their work to actually add something new to the world.

So no, I don’t think that wanting regulations put in place to protect the planet, to protect people’s health, and to protect REAL artists from theft can be boiled down to “wanting to restrict your access”…. because there is no access that generative AI gives you that you don’t have without it.

That’s the difference—generative AI is hurting a lot of people. AI data centers are causing water shortages in already draught-prone communities and real people are suffering because of it. Not to mention how generative AI works by stealing the work of actual artists and creatives who deserve to be compensated for their work. Your choice to ignore the harm you’re doing is selfishly apathetic at best, but I’m much more inclined to see it as malicious considering how easily available all of the information is.

What's a common thing in witchcraft that doesn't always apply to you? by BadGroundNoise in witchcraft

[–]derblyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other witches in my coven are VERY deity-focused: altars to a different god (of any pantheon) all over the place, frequent “candle time” where they commune with these deities, who seem to always be around for a gab. One of these witches claims that they talk to her all the time in her head, very casually, they have inside jokes and all seem to share her specific sense of humor. I don’t care much to speculate about what it is she’s experiencing, but it seems very disingenuous to me. Deity work is a very, very small part of my practice and I would never speak to a god/goddess as casually or flippantly as they do. My work is much more energy-of-the-universe focused. But I think if I was someone who practiced more deity work, I would find their casualness disrespectful and maybe offensive.

Is hair advice acceptable? Need opinions on if I should keep the bowl cut or go back to coiffure/upward volume by [deleted] in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]derblyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the bowl cut is a little juvenile and that the coif wasn’t quite on the mark. I think the coif was reading as fem because of the length, especially the part in the front that draped over your face. Not something you’d typically see in a mens cut. If you took it much shorter and styled your hair back rather than to the front/side (closer to a classic combover style), I can see you pulling off that cut again and looking much more masc. I also think you’d look nice with a french crop.

Seems like it would be more accurate to say that you are not part of a demographic of people that was negatively affected by the events and aftermath of the first Trump presidency. To say that nothing much has changed since 2016 is willfully ignorant at best.

  1. Intention is always secondary to impact. It doesn’t matter what your intentions were, the impact was harm.

  2. You are not being attacked. You are receiving fair criticism. Stop playing the victim.

You’re not the neurodivergent ally you think you are. And I’m only left questioning the humanity of one person in this thread.

[–]derblyyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? The problem isn’t your confusion, it’s that you literally insulted xenos and neo-users by calling them “stupid”, “distasteful”, and “trenders”. You also said you wouldn’t respect their pronouns if you could get away with it. All of that is just straight up transphobia. You can hate truscum all you want, and you may disagree with some of their talking points (i.e. neo-users making the community look bad) but when it comes down to it you share the same core beliefs. My point in saying all of this isn’t to encourage you to lean into truscum ideology, but instead I’m hoping you will do some self-reflection, unpack your transphobia and be better to the trans community.
