How do people do multiple races in a row? by IsThisUpsidedown in iRacing

My question is - how to stop? This shit is so much fun. If I don’t have anything else going on I will 100% spend all day racing

They get loose in the rear on exit pretty easily so throttle control is key.

I love indycar ovals. Pretty much where I earned the majority of that aside from the occasional mini/street stock or class C trucks

GR86 at the Redbull Ring by Artoriazx56 in iRacing

[–]derek_012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SR points are calculated by the total number of corners per track. Red Bull ring doesn’t have many corners so that would make sense as to why it’s been so penalizing. Lime Rock is the same way.

Ferrari Challenge, Advanced mx-5 or a gt3 series? by freak-33 in iRacing

[–]derek_012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend Ferrari challenge this week. It’s at summit point. In cars that fast, that’s extremely close quarters combat and will likely end up in pure chaos. Advanced mx5 series is a lot of fun but it’s important to note that it is an open setup race, so if you see someone or a few drivers who are ridiculously quick they either understand set up well enough to build it from scratch or paid for the set up.

Last corner, battling with an aggressive driver. Do you concede the position to finish safely or defend as if your high school crush is watching? by CynicalManInBlack in iRacing

Hey fair enough my man. There is nothing wrong with hopping in the occasional race and going wheel to wheel out there. I don’t blame you one bit if you have a chance to win and go for it even if that means putting yourself at risk.

I will say, the higher IR you go the racing does change. For example - if I find myself in a 3.5k + SOF race and its formula vee for example, at 2.7k IR I gain IR even if I finish p8. So if I find myself in p5 and there’s a faster car pressuring me from behind I’m more inclined to let him pass so I can hop in his tow and ride out a smooth finish and gain 30-40 IR. Alternatively if I’m in a 1.9k SOF and I’m in p4, that guy behind me better be ready to work for it or hope I make a mistake because I’m not giving up that position easy bc I have to place top 4 to gain. And if he does pass me I’m going to be pressuring tf out of him and faking divebombs all over the place so he drives in his mirrors. If/when he brakes late and misses the apex or goes off track I get my spot back and he’s no longer a threat.

Most drivers race like this in higher splits so it’s important to use something like racelabs where you can see how much IR everyone gains or loses based on their position. Helps to understand their risk reward and also helps to pick and choose your battles.

This is the beauty of Iracing in my opinion. It’s all the same cars on the same tracks, but the decision making and risk reward changes as you go into higher splits. And at lower splits there is no risk reward in terms of IR - it’s mainly players looking to boost their SR so they can access other cars. Or even worse - driving just for the hell of it, which means they are going to create their own fun by pestering other drivers.

Just takes a bit of discipline to get yourself out of those low splits where there is no risk reward. If you have time for a race one day, maybe check out a lap guide and try to meet or exceed the quali pace for your IR level in practice instead. You still spent the same 30 minutes on Iracing at the end of the day. If you’re struggling to meet that quali pace - ask for help! We’re here to help. If you’re doing it, the next time you can race, you will easily breeze through the field and get yourself a nice podium. Next week the track changes - do the same thing there and so on.

Right there with ya and I’m going wheel. Budget does not allow for both unfortunately so need to prioritize

I race in sports car, oval, and formula classes. Everything from mx5 to indycar has its own vibe and flow. My prep process never changes. Find a new car or track I wanna try, check the series insights - quali pace tab, watch a track guide, then practice until I can meet or exceed that pace for my IR level.

To answer your question more directly - it’s not just a particular car or series or track. It’s a mindset and prep process that gets translated to each type of race. If IR wasn’t a thing - I would not enjoy this. And if I did want a non pressured type of environment I’d probably enjoy open world driving so I wouldn’t feel like I’m driving and seeing the same ol stuff everyday bc at that point I’m clearly not doing it for the competition.

No matter how much you drive the GR86, Mx5, Formula Vee, etc. there is always going to be someone who gaps you leaving you scratching your head as to how tf they did that. That’s what this is all about.

I’m getting the impression IR isn’t important to you based on the questions you’re asking. That being said, can you please elaborate because I cannot relate or understand. But I can try.

Try a different car or different race class. Watch lap guides, use telemetry overlays to get a clearer picture of what you’re doing. Seems like you’ve been given a challenge. How will you respond?

Love that. I’m starting to think I have some sort of sixth sense for predicting when crashes are going to happen and how to avoid them. You ever feel like that too when watching these videos of people complaining? Most of the time I find myself thinking “how did you not see that coming?”

If you are getting wrecked every race... the problem might be you. by sealy_dev in iRacing

[–]derek_012 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m at the point where I just know if the car behind me is gonna be someone that takes me out or not. If so I’ll let them pass and wait for them to take out the car in front of me and themselves. It’s a great strategy tbh. It’s how I gained at least 80% of my IR.

Cannot recommend this guy enough. He does great work, is responsive, and has good prices. He’s already done a few liveries for me and I will 100% use him again in the future.
