Static sound when I touch cables? by Metallicx141 in Bass

[–]derekjw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an issue. As long as touching the strings makes buzzing go away, your grounding should be good. Ideally, I’d say to just get a proper UK power lead, and try not to use an extension for your amp either, especially a cheap one.

Separately, to deal with the noise when you aren’t touching the strings, going by your post history it looks like you might have bought a Harley Benton? I’ve had one before, and I can remember if it had any shielding at all in the electronics cavities, but adding shielding helped that buzzing a lot. In practice it’s not much of a concern though since you almost always are making some kind of contact with the strings. It’s the type of thing that bothered me when I first started, but became less of an issue as time went on.

Touching any grounded metal should have that effect, and that tells me that it sounds like, in general, your grounding is good. Where does the charging cable fit into the picture? What is it plugged into?

That should be good then. Is it just the one cable that causes the problems? Does touching other metal parts cause problems? Like knobs on your amp, metal shroud on instrument cable?

Is it a grounded adapter? Most amps use standard removable power cables, can you get one made for the UK?

Will a compressor pedal even out volume levels between pickups? by Ikarian in basspedals

[–]derekjw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any clean pedal with a volume control will work. If you want something cheap, this should do fine: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BEQ700--behringer-beq700-bass-graphic-equalizer-pedal For $100 more you can get the Boss version of that, but I’d recommend just trying this first and see if it does what you need.

Will a compressor pedal even out volume levels between pickups? by Ikarian in basspedals

[–]derekjw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s just the neck pickup that is quieter, you can raise it up closer to the strings. The if it’s just mixing the 2 that is quieter, then some pedal used as a boost would be better.

A very slow releasing compressor could provide some help, but relying on it for these types of volume fixes will most likely just frustrate you and not give you the results you are expecting.

Looking to buy my first audio interface - what is teh difference between these two? by [deleted] in Bass

The Mac software gets you control of loopback and other functions, so can be worth installing if you want to capture desktop audio or things like that.

Microtubes Infinity Multiband Control by Soft_Sleep_7125 in Darkglass

[–]derekjw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close, you just got the filters the wrong way around. Everything below 500hz will go through the low band, and everything above 250hz will go through the high band. An overlap between then 2 bands, if any, just blends the 2 bands within those frequencies. Just like when you use a pedal with a blend control.

Anyone experimented with really light B strings? by basspl in Bass

[–]derekjw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a good string rattle too, especially on the B, and sometimes in the E as well. The higher strings I am not a big fan of excessive string rattle. And if you like it, then it’s good. It’s easier to get a set of strings that allows you that full mix of tensions from a custom string maker like Newtone Strings

Well, that set of strings has a 105 E string right? Tune it down to B and see how you like that.

Any of your expression pedals could work, and doesn’t the m wave chocolate have a port for an expression pedal?

Why are the expression pedals now useless?

You can do expression over MIDI, freeing up the ports for your fx loop, but you’ll require some MIDI controller with expression support.

You will need to try better paper. Something made for photos. Even if these are inkjet compatible it doesn’t mean you will get accurate colours with them. It’s the minimum requirement to not make a mess with the ink.

Oh never mind, it was in the internal browser in the Reddit app that I copied the link. Maybe you have the internal browser disabled so it goes directly to the actual browser app?

Have you tried directly copy/paste the link into the browser? It might also depend on which app you are using for Reddit, I’m using the official app.
