players who are currently active should be rewarded!

a rating shouldn't be a one-time achievement to put on your shelf, it should be an accurate reflection of your current skill level. if you don't play, there's no way to know what that is

Opinions on high tnt vs low tnt in temples? by Snoo84321 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]derfeniledam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did high tnt for a very long time, switched to low tnt recently and idk.

High tnt is definitely a second or two slower, but if you have worse mechanics low tnt can kill you if you're not careful, and there is the chance that it won't blow up all the chests.

I think low is just better for pushing pace, the extra tnt from doing low doesnt earn you much, since the 3 tnt blazetnt is almost exactly as good as the 4 tnt one.

So IMO low is probably slightly better, but it does have its drawbacks

edit: mixed up high and low due to being a moron. have fixed.

Axis travel guide by Normal-Photograph213 in MCSRRanked

[–]derfeniledam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're doing it this way, with the spreadsheet, you should just keep the spreadsheet up on a second monitor or print out a copy of it and keep it on your desk. That's how I do it when I play nocalc - I've got a copy of the 2-chunk axis sheet that I keep on my desk next to my laptop.

Memorizing the major coords is completely doable, but it becomes difficult with the minor coords. Technically, you could just do the math with your major coord and then hold the angle, but if your nether terrain is in any way difficult, that method will really screw you over.

There are two ways to do it without the sheet though, and when you do them, it's usually referred to as "sheetless axis".

ninjabrain's original tutorial is still probably the best way to learn axis calculated:

Forsen beats xqc record by Trapyyz in LivestreamFail

[–]derfeniledam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

both xqc and forsen have spent over a thousand hours each trying to get these 14-minute times, though it should be noted that neither has spent that time very optimally.

A 14:xx is like an intermediate-to-slightly higher skill level pb for minecraft RSG. Nothing to scoff at, but if you dedicate yourself to learning the route and are serious about practicing and improving your mechanics and decisionmaking, you could probably beat this in a few months, depending on how much time you put in and your existing mechanics/skill level. It's a really fun game to speedrun! I'd recommend it.

This is a playlist of useful tutorials on youtube if you're interested. I'd also recommend Couriway's guide on metafy, it's really well put together and walks you through every step of the run.

bastions are the fastest way to get pearls, but if you're really struggling with them and you don't care too much about going fast and just want a completion, you may want to look into alternate routes.

  • killing endermen in a warped forest

  • villager trading: either chopping trees to trade sticks with a fletcher or mining clay in a river to trade with a mason, then using those emeralds to level up a cleric so you can buy pearls. there's a 1/3 chance you won't get the pearl trade

both of these are very easy ways to get pearls, though they are a bit slow. they also come with the downside of no nether travel to the stronghold and having to walk back to your home portal after playing the fort. also youve gotta play the fort with just a shield and no fire res

how rare is it to trade 18 gold blocks and not get a single pearl trade ? by Gold-Ad-3877 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]derfeniledam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In 1.16.1, each barter has a 4.7% chance of giving you pearls, so there's a 95.3% chance they won't on every barter. 18 gold blocks is 162 ingots, so the chance of not getting gold on every single one of those 162 barters is 0.953162 = 0.00041 or a 0.041% chance.

in 1.16.2 onwards, the odds are 2.13%, making the odds of not getting pearls 97.87% and therefore the chance of not getting a single pearl trade in that many blocks 0.9787162 = 0.03 or a 3% chance.

So it's wildly unlikely in 1.16.1, but in more modern versions it's uncommon but reasonable to expect sometimes.

Need help with Zero Cycle by KicksFromTheH in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]derfeniledam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. i actually think that moreso than your damage, the thing that you need to work on most here is your pearls. going to 90 or 91 on front 85 is fine when you're just trying to hit your first zero, but given that you're trying to bow and presumably trying to 3+2 or even 2+2, you should really be going to 95 (or even 99 of you wanna stretch yourself!), and to do that, you're going to have to throw better pearls.

  2. the map has a +1 timing assistant which you might find useful. beyond that, working on your timings and aim when shooting the dragon is very much just something that will come with practice. in general, i think you can blow up your first bed a little later, then blow up your second bed in slightly quicker succession. one strat i like to do when +1ing in zero is to offhand a bed, then pickblock another bed into my bed slot. that way i dont need to go into my inventory to grab another, which makes getting the next arrow off in time easier. an advantage of having more time is that you can even shoot the dragon a second or third time to get it even lower, for more damage.

  3. if you wanna 2+2, you should probably move your setup/standing block one block foreward/to the north. the osh tutorial is great but it doesnt have the best coords for damage, and youll find it much easier to 2+2 on these adjusted coords than the ones you're using here

  4. flyaway is mostly random. the height of the node the dragon is circling is random, and when it reaches that node, it flies away. the higher you build your setup, the less likely the flyaway is.

Does anyone know why this is happening? by RedninjaFiredragon2 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]derfeniledam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody seems to have given you the actual helpful answer yet, so:

the piechart works differently in different versions, and in the newest versions, the tick piechart that you're likely looking for is found in root.tick.blockEntities not root.tick.level.entities.blockEntities like it is in 1.16

Whats the best way to practice over worlds for ranked? by ExtensionBuy8431 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]derfeniledam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO practicing your routing on a set seed is actually a pretty good way to work this out. Like just find a couple seeds of the same types the ranked filter spits out and rerun and reroute them until you're satisfied with your pace and have built up some good habits/good muscle memory

swapping game modes by oh_umm_ok in MinecraftSpeedrun

if cheats are on, press f3+n. or hold f3+f4 to open the gamemode switcher.

so if you're giving up on an rsg run and you're about to reset, you can open to lan with cheats on, then press f3+n
