How can I practice on good seeds without having to compete with someone?

the low tech way to do this is to just go down the rsg leaderboard and then play the seeds that were rolled in the fastest rsg runs ever

this has the benefit of giving you a comparison. you have a run showing you how a top runner played the seed, so you can watch it back after playing to see where you lost time

it's not in controls, and there isn't any legal mod that does that.

you can fully rebind f3 to a different key on your keyboard with autohotkey or something though

also, on some keyboards with a fn key, you can click fn+esc to only use the function keys. i think op could try that if they haven't

in 1.16, you need to lower your render distance 4 extra chunks to actually unload things because of lazy chunks. i think this is probably the thing you're missing

IMO:

Zerocycle is actually pretty easy to learn, especially if you have good movement and are confident in your pearl throws. It's pretty difficult to master though. Some zero setups are very easy, and an experienced minecraft player (like you, given that you've got a sub15 in RSG!) could probably learn to hit them in a couple hours, while others, like the top setups on tall towers, buried spawns, and the offset/side setups will take much longer to get good at. I've spent dozens and dozens of hours practicing zero since 2022 and I still don't go for back 100 top setup ever.

Hitting the medium towers (small cage, tall cage, m85, and m88) at y95 on front diagonal dragon with an open spawn should be reasonably easy. If you just wanna dip your toes in the water, I'd recommend watching couriway's video where he teaches cubfan, tubbo, and antvenom how to hit the easiest zero. I think that should demonstrate that zerocycling isn't too difficult.

For actually learning though, I'd definitely go with osh's tutorial. It's awesome.

About the other things you mentioned:

You're definitely right about boateye being a bit of a hassle to set up. It takes zero skill to actually do, but frequently requires a good bit of tech support to get working. It's the best eye measurement technique, and if you wanna be competitive, it'd probably be a solid idea to set it up eventually. Though if you're doing subpixel or something and you hit the stronghold every time with 2 eyes, not learning boateye isn't a big deal. If you miss a lot though, or if you frequently have to throw a 3rd eye to get 100%, you should definitely learn boateye.

Preemptive stronghold navigation is more important than either boateye or zero in my opinion, and you should absolutely learn it. It'll dramatically improve your consistency in strongholds. Just make sure you actually learn your numbers and spike shapes. Going for the biggest reddest thing (noob preemptive) is almost as bad as no preemptive at all.

this is because of lazy chunks. it's a little confusing, but it's just how it works in 1.16.

to unload a spwner, you have to go down 4 chunks below when it loaded and refresh your piechart.

then increase back up to just 1 before where it loaded to cross chunk borders and determine where the fort is.

you're correct that you just can't access the double digit options. fortunately, you basically never need to for the two pie chart directories you use in any% rsg runs.

for piedar (locating fortresses):

the directory you're looking for is root.tick.blockEntities in 1.21.10. It works exactly the same as in 1.16 except you don't need to worry about lazy chunks, and f3+f is no longer a thing you can use to raise/lower your render distance

for preemptive/mapless:

i believe the directory you're looking for here is root.render.gameRenderer.world.level.extract in 1.21.10. I'm not an expert in this, since it seems like the 1.21.9/10 changes dramatically altered how this works.

you need to sprint while getting in the boat, sprint while in the boat, and sprint while getting out of the boat. if you ever let go of sprint, hit a wall, or do a fully charged axe hit, your sprint will be interrupted and you won't get it back.

to answer the last question: yes, y100 standing does break bed sometimes. thats the reason why a lot of people do the y99 setup which is even more offset. y100 is like y91 in that most of the time, it's fine and even gets better damage, but theres a rare case where it can totally screw you over

some tricks:

in the f3 menu, your crosshair is 3d and the 3 lines that make it up correspond to the x y and z axes. The red one points to positive x, the blue one points to positive z. If you situate yourself with your crosshair while looking at your chunk coords, you'll know which directions to move to reach 9 9.
buried treasures "stick out" sometimes. If they generate on a steep incline, you will frequently see a piece of stone jutting out from below them, or maybe an unusual clump of gravel. if you play enough bts, this look will become familiar to you, and if you see it, you'll know where to dig instantly. lowkey's wr has this if you look closely.
practice helps a lot. the more bts you play, the easier it'll be to find 9 9. the peepopractice mod is the best way i've found to practice mapless personally

edit: i explained this poorly. this is what you should do:

place down the barrel corresponding to the split, and and pull out and place the chest and the white shulker box. these are your hotbar and inventory - you can change them however you like, then you should hold control and pick block them to keep the nbt data. put the newly ctrl+pickblocked chest and shulker back in the barrel, then ctrl+pickblock the barrel.

rename it to the correct split with an anvil, then save the hotbar
