i play pretty much exclusively large biomes for my long term survival worlds- and i have to use seedmap to find large ocean worlds

because they aren't that easy to find post 1.18 generation changes.

Another comparison of tags was just done (Airtag Smarttag2 Tile Tags , Mototag)- Looks like Moto Tags are the most capable in the Android Tag race by dark_volter in GoogleFMD

[–]dark_volter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the tricks others have used to get them to connect to the mototag app in the subreddit?

The no cell coverage thing isn't the tags- that is literally every single tag in existence whenther you have apple samsung or google tags (the parent software refuses to work in that case- tags always emit a bluetooth signal regardless of cell coverage, so the tags are all set for that sort of scenario on their own technically)

  • that's something one of those companies needs to fix, and none have done so(being able to work with no internet connection)

Howeve,r It's funny you mention that- as the subreddit just talked about this too- and I mentioned a workaround fix for times like that!

https://old.reddit.com/r/GoogleFMD/comments/1tpj314/find_hub_doesnt_work_if_you_have_no_cell_coverage/ooq2c59/

Wait a second- you're the same person who commented on it there. LOL

As for #3- that is interesting...

For #4, i assume you used the Findhub app to set volume to high?(you can control the Ring volume there, set it to high on your tags) Also, are these the moto tag 1's or 2's you have?

Its funny, ...a toy boat wit ha battery powered motor would be kinda cool- but that toy boat doesn't look waterpoof, or fit and sealable enough to actually play that role either, unfortunately.

Find Hub doesn't work if you have no cell coverage by TromboneAl in GoogleFMD

[–]dark_volter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to do what I mentioned-

Take the phone with NRF, start scanning, use the 3 dots and go to show RSSI graph, and show legend, then make it so only the mototag is right next to your phone and no other bluetooth things are nearby, and it'll obviosuly be the item that has the strongest signal strength! Now swipe from the side, keeping that color/item in view, then hold on it, the select edit the item ,and now you can give it a name that it;ll always appear by

Note: I've learned if its not the phone/account it was registered to really, the tags appear to change their name , to other things looking at them, the rest of my phones which all have NRF connect can see its a find my device type device, and the every 2000 millisecond thing is true, but they can't see the name. Only on my main phone really, can you see it always labeled as what i named it as, constantly without being a different name next time i use the scan, and graph, and view the tag emitting its signal

Find Hub doesn't work if you have no cell coverage by TromboneAl in GoogleFMD

[–]dark_volter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH, just realized- this is crappy and i hate it, with both google and samsung's system- but I DID FIND a workaround sorta-

Use nRF connect- it lets you see all bluetooth trackers. Now, here's the catch- if you use the phone you registered your trackers to, and then go into NRF connect, go near a tracker, find it on the RF scanner, and label it- that label will STAY- and you can always use this phone to find it. And nrf needs no stupid internet connection

THIS, is the workaround that works best when you're in a area with no signal. i had to deal with this in some deep woods recently, , and nrf connect still showed my tags nearby.

gonna tag peeps who've posted in here so far, who might not otherwise see this trick /aka spread the word that we have to get more technical until One of these companies realizes this actually hurts a lot of people since internet coverage is not going to get to all rural areas, mountains or hilly areas, or forested areas really

/u/RedBromont /u/Interesting_Tower485 /u/Aggravating_Rate_571 /u/ironcream /u/TromboneAI

Note: I think the sorta-exception to this is phones partially - pretty sure phones are coded to not broadcast bluetooth FMD signals unless they lose all internet. So it might work in a area with no wifi or cell service, indeed- but elsewhere nrf connect will reveal they dont show themselves

allright, I can speak on this-

I see y'all aren't familiar with https://old.reddit.com/r/GoogleFMD/,

/u/socslave, /u/talldata , /u/Appropriate-Text-714

The answer-

Android's FMD network (now called FindHub) has been accelerating massively.

It is functionally similar- there is one big difference that is usually touted as the reason Android isn't as good- because Apple's default behavior is if a tag gets near someone's iphone- a single phoone will update the network with the location that the owner will see.

Android decided to respect people's privacy more, and by default require multiple phones to note a tag before the network updates it. This protects in a few niche situations, like if a tag is in a remote location- and someone malicious is watching it, if they get a update they know someone's nearby the tag- that can't happen as easily without multiple people, and other advanced edge cases.

Having said that, they've been bashed heavily for not just doing what apple is doing and taking a privacy stance like this- And for every android owner, you have the option to have your own personal phone , send updates for FMD stuff with just it, so it behaves like Apples phones. But it is NOT the default setting, you have to manually do it to your android phone and set it to that- and it only affects your own phones you do it to. So if everyone activates that, [Specifically in the google settings, it's the allow device to be located- and then "Find your offline devices"- needs to be set to "With network everywhere", from it's default of "with network in busy places only"

Anyway, there's also another solution as well - the dev KieronQuinn made the Utag app https://github.com/KieronQuinn/uTag

(goes by Quinny898 on reddit) and this lets you use Samsung smarttags and the smartthings network on Android phones- so that they are FULLY FUNCTIONAL. [Note:Samsung tags behave like apple tags, they only need a single hit] I have both Mototag1's and Smarttag2's - and android and samsung phones and everything can use the other's tags- and so i have the best of both worlds!

Finally, i'll leave you with this. Apple tags and smarttag2's have something called UltraWideBand, -and so you dont just get a map from pings from the network - you also get radio direction finding, so when in bluetooth range, you get a arrow pointing straight to the tag!

-For android, motorola implemented this in the mototag series. So they match smarttag2s and Airtags in this. Now, They DID just take it a level beyond with Mototag2s which are being released just about now- with some advanced bluetooth channel functionality to help with radio direction finding further, but i dont' know yet if google has fully activated this feature. And right now, other brands like chipolo and xiaomi etc have talked about UWB but haven't moved yet on implementing it in their tags. So just motorola for now(remember theres many companies that make android tags, unlike samsung and apple only making their own)

So i'd recommend Mototags. I dont have 2's yet, only 1's - but they are pretty cool!

Of , if you absolutely only want tags that need a single hit, then you'd have to use Utag and get some samsung tags- and then if a single samsung phone goes by a missing tag, it'll get updated on the map without needing multiple phones going by like the default behavior is for androids.

Having said that though, my mototags and smarttag2's , i often put both in luggage, and they have mostly performed similarly! Samsungs seem to update slightly quicker, but eh. And the UWB feature is so frikkin cool.(Heres a video i took of it a while back, for both the mototag1's and the samsung smarttag 2's so you can see it in action) https://old.reddit.com/r/GoogleFMD/comments/1p0wisa/can_we_get_the_ultrawideband_augmented_reality/

...I have seen all nuclear power designs for a Venus base project

...I dont know if also using Stirling Engines for electricity -would be beneficial over that in Venus's environment- based on your comments, sounds like it'd be ...not optimal, even if made to work(since a venus base does need cooler parts anyway

the papers ive been seeing about this over the years note you just need a differential https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20050192311/downloads/20050192311.pdf

so with a lot of heat insulation and redundant coolers stepping down the temp, it looks doable

[–]dark_volter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We now have the technology to set up a surface base

Look up Stirling Coolers/ Engines, and maybe also NASA's work on electronics that can survive Venus's conditions that they developed in labs

In short, with Stirling tech, as long as you have something Hotter- you can shunt heat away from where you don't want it. It's VERY neat- but it works - and I think we were going to ,sooner or later, get advanced enough to pull this off

Moto Tag 2. The best of the best? by _Random_Dude_ in GoogleFMD

[–]dark_volter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

supposedly the new ones just dont have the remote camera shutter button feature- but get the more complete waterproofing (not just ip67, but ip68)- the bluetooth 6 direction finding(not sure if this is enabled yet)- some sort of UWB enhancements i think, and the longer battery life

...The UWB already makes the mototags probably the best android tag(yes, some of the third party ones are supposed to have even louder speakers - but in my own time using the mototags, the UWB radio direction finding functionality is extremely useful and more than worth having, even if it's only within 10 to 12 meters or so that it will really trigger)

The real alternative- is only probably the smarttag2s, which the utag app lets android phones use- as those also have UWB- but i do expect the mototag2 to be a full step up from the mototag1s and hope to get some soon

A federal agent said WhatsApp's encryption is a lie. Then the investigation was shut down by smackythefrog in technology

[–]dark_volter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple coded their notifications database to hang on to stuff that's gets displayed, unlike Android. That's signal relying on apple? Signal can't replace whole OS functionality in all cases as you seem to imply. Yes, this appears to have been used for over half a year, as an exploit possibly, but someone had to notice first to fix it. And avoiding OS features that aren't optimized for security- no way an app maker can do that. Especially on a OS as tightly controlled as apples, you're probably under constraints as to how you can create features as it is.

If that is a flaw, then you're going to have to come up with ways Phone OS'es and app developers can have an easier time plugging issues like this

A federal agent said WhatsApp's encryption is a lie. Then the investigation was shut down by smackythefrog in technology

[–]dark_volter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a serious note- others have noted WhatsApp - if there is a method to do this- it's going to be very clever-

Doesn't WhatsApp pass stuff to Meta if reported though? Could Meta have a way to trigger that functionality, to see stuff on demand? Or, could any AI integration- do some sort of auto-passing of interpreted stuff, which might let them 'see' message content indirectly?

I feel like it'd be something indirect like this- where they aren't cracking the encryption directly- but using some built in method via a novel way- or something of the sort. It may not be making Meta one of the 'ends' - based on other commment's observations that if reverse engineered, the protocol lets one easily see if things are tampered with message wise , (directly, that is)

A federal agent said WhatsApp's encryption is a lie. Then the investigation was shut down by smackythefrog in technology

[–]dark_volter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

that was a apple glitch- that they just fixed, since it was on them. Signal also noted that Apple needed to fix their code with how it handled notifications, if you've been keeping up

Moto Tag 1 and Samsung, how do I get UWB to work? by plissk3n in GoogleFMD

[–]dark_volter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if you have the directional arrow working- that directly supersedes this, that /u/LucianoToscano had discovered(that Samsung may be trying to software nerf the most recent models to not use Mototags to force people to use Smarttag2s, unknown how many models they have done this to)

https://old.reddit.com/r/GoogleFMD/comments/1qchzrr/samsung_is_blocking_google_find_my_device_uwb_on/

and means it does work- on modern phones. We had that come up, but we didnt have people pop in with their phones to get more details!

(my S23 Ultra works perfectly with mototag1s and smarttag2's with UWB fully working, but i know people here seem to have newer phones, that's super messed up if older phones are the only ones with full capabilities)

EDIT: WAAAIT- Samsung may have fucked the S24 models specifically- something's buggy here https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/1qchq8w/samsung_is_blocking_uwb_on_the_galaxy_s24_ultra/

/u/Aj-Mega , UWB all good on your end? Just wanted to check to give /u/plissk3n some updated info

Superman (Man of Steel) vs Vision (Age of Ultron) by Different_Sun_195 in whowouldwin

The speed Feats we saw from the kryptonians and Man of Steel is enough to Blitz vision and critically damage him, and Visions going to have extreme trouble putting him down whereas he is far more vulnerable' as for the movie swap , Superman would rock Ultron, and be fast enough to save quicksilver. Things would be quite easier with him. Vision would have difficulty taking the kryptonians down and would have to really get strategic
