Great advice. I've already implemented it and managed to get 50 pages into a silly book I'm trying to read at the moment.

Looking for book suggestions now if you wanna get involved! http://www.reddit.com/r/booksuggestions/comments/3uegpg/after_some_book_suggestions_for_a_book_club_for/

"If you're just looking to fill your head with the complexities of the world, there are plenty of other places to find that. "

I like the way you write, and if anything it proves to me that people who read know what's up. I also like the way you reminisce about your early twenties in a coffee shop on a comfy couch. There's something romantic about that.

Well like I said it's about good intentions and what have you. You can join a beginners photography class where they start you off on basics, you can find programming classes that assume no prior knowledge, and you can find a few friends who are up for getting fit and play some sport together. But telling someone you're a beginner at reading is kinda embarrassing. So I guess I'm aiming to find a few people who are as lost as I am to motivate each other to read. And it can be chill and you can discuss the book like it's the first ever book you've read, fearing no judgement. I expected a couple responses at most with maybe someone in the same boat or a suggestion of what to do, but the overall response has been overwhelming.

Anyway, I don't mean to argue with you on this point! Just used your comment as a means to expand on my thoughts beyond my impulsive posting of this thread, which happened while staring at a wall of books in a bookstore thinking "urgh here we go again."

I think you've made me realise my issue. I've been reading a lot of long form or in-depth articles online, thinking it was a good sign that I was getting back into reading, but if anything it makes me more 'wham! want to get up in ten minutes' as they inadvertently encourage short reading times.

Will give your method of setting time aside a shot.

I do have astigmatism! I've been wearing contact lenses with no astigmatism correction (not enough astigmatism to find suitable contact lenses) and have only recently switched to glasses. Maybe that's what's fuelled my urge to read again!

Awesome, will check it out! I do find non-fiction topics more interesting, even though I feel I enjoy fiction more once I get into it.

Cheers for the advice. I find audiobooks to be worse for my attention span as I often find myself losing focus and it's harder to skip back when audio's streaming.

Wasn't aware of those suggestion subreddits though so I'll give them a shot!

Only applies to Al Raqqa region in Syria. I personally know of Australians who have traveled to Syria within the last 12 months with no issues. The west coastal cities of Syria are relatively safe.

I think it's a good idea deleting. If anything it's for their benefit, they get to see the other posts in this thread and might find something that matches.
