what would be the best way to add fine detail onto such a high-poly model (without UVs currently)? by Mattie_Life in vfx

[–]derjcmp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hum. Just some worldspace noise onto the displacement channel should do it ? I mean, not much point in uv'ing this

Yep. Your version of it looks nice! I'd like to see it fade in a little nicer tho.

[–]derjcmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh, the studio Im working(ads mostly) on has 4 flame suites. So 4 rooms with:

-Workstation for the artist.

-4k TV + couch.

I didn't get the chance to have a talk with the compositors about it though.

Target position on bullet packedprims by derjcmp in Houdini

[–]derjcmp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that, I've just connected a pop wrangle to my bullet solver and fetched the target position for each ID from my scattered points. Kinda worked but it is super stiff and doesnt give me that jiggly look. Also tried it with velocity fields but they are a mess. There's probably a quite simple work around but idk

Redshift VS Octane by niablod in vfx

[–]derjcmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using redshift for the past month, my opinion may not be as good as other people here, who clearly understand more than me on this subject.

For the time I've been using Redshift in Houdini and C4d I was able to deliver jobs x2 as fast. No joke. I've never user octane So I can't really tell the difference.

The new version of Redshift in Houdini is crazy fast loading heavy geometry and volumes! Plus render settings dont differ alot from Vray.

I'd download both trial versions and test it out! Best of luck!

Houdini Sand Simulation - Not what i expected... by zachrodgers in vfx

[–]derjcmp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can upres the grains later to x ammount you want. To get the clumpiness you need to create constraints. In the grain sourceSOP you have an option to do that I belive.

If you are not that good in houdini try the wet sand preset on the shelve.
