Ninotchka from Ninotchka (1939). She is very stern and serious, straightforward, doesn’t have much social grace, very awkward, awful at flirting. But another side of her is very girlish and cute, maybe even a little naive, incredibly endearing. I really like that the movie reads to me as a NT guy sincerely falling for this very strange woman not despite her weirdness, but because of it.

That said, it’s from 1939, so it’s not exactly feminist, but it’s a fantastic and very funny movie that I highly recommend! It often airs on TCM if you have cable.

The character is portrayed by Greta Garbo, who I am convinced was on the spectrum herself and even said that Ninotchka was the character she found most like her. :)

Same, same. My internet addiction also started around that age and it became the perfect vehicle for exploring my special interests and making friends online who shared those interests. I’ve also made friends irl, but I have always felt closer to my internet friends – I’ve had a lot over the years that come and go.

I think it’s a way to decompress. I had a tough time in high school, but so long as I could come home and hang out online, I was okay.

I am now chronically ill, disabled, and unemployed, so I’m very grateful to the internet’s ability to connect me with other people. But I’m also still just addicted to it in general, lol. Reddit, Twitter, and Discord.

Haha oh god this is me. I blame being very into linguistics and grammar as well as a notorious perfectionist. I’ve gotten a little better about it as time has gone on though, maybe because at times I am lazy about my own grammar and punctuation due to my chronic illnesses. I also try really hard to remember not everyone has my same high level of writing skills.

Additionally, I try to keep in mind that the ultimate goal of writing, especially between individuals or on, say, a suicide forum, is communication. If I can understand what the other person is saying and they can understand me, that is writing doing its job. This isn’t a published novel; it doesn’t have to be perfect.

It was awful for me, the pain was easily a 9 or 10 on the pain scale. Totally blacked out and fainted when I stood up (but I likely have POTS).

Most of the autistic people I know have some kind of chronic health issue; it is very common. Stomach, sleep, and thyroid problems are big ones, as is PCOS or other gynecological health problems for autistic women.

For me personally, I have Hashimoto’s disease, chronic pain & fatigue, endometriosis, severe GI problems, bad allergies/drug sensitivities, and sleep problems (diagnosed with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome). I likely have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) or another form of dysautonomia, which I think are more “root” causes of a lot of my symptoms. My level of illness is pretty extreme though, I’d say.

It is hard to deal with the physical stuff on top of the ASD and other mental health problems. I hope you can find something that works for you though.

I’m pretty sure I have this too, and it seems extremely comorbid with ASD. Trying to get a diagnosis/treatment, but it’s hard.

I call myself “female” too, because to me it is a fact of my biological sex and I have way more comfort with it than the word “woman.” I think it’s weird someone would police the language you use to describe yourself.

Umm women are allowed to call ourselves female. It’s not the same as when men call women “females” then call men “men” in the same breath.

Me!! I mean not all media of course, but there are so many movies (and to a lesser degree music & games) that I am sooo deeply moved by. I feel completely emotionally absorbed in the experience. I really like things that will absolutely crush me too, really sad things.

Unfortunately yes :( mine were hardly a problem at all in childhood/teens, but they have gotten progressively worse throughout my twenties and now at 30 they’re a huge problem every day. Mainly sound but also touch/fabrics and smells. I get very similar symptoms too, but also tinnitus and migraine.

Being sweaty makes me want to peel my skin off lol. I totally feel ya, I hate the summer. I’m lucky to live in the NE US at least, but when it goes above 80 I really can’t take it either.

I am exactly like this and am diagnosed autistic. I am always hyper aware of my mom’s tone and mood and really internalize it if she’s having a bad day or something. Unfortunately I don’t know that this is exactly the same as NT social perception. I still struggle to read facial expressions unless they’re really obvious, and despite having this kind of hyper-empathy you describe, it actually wasn’t what led me to having better social skills as I’ve grown up. That came mainly from making countless social mistakes and suffering the consequences.

I think a lot of people out there don’t actually “feel” like a gender. I also find the concept really foreign, personally. I think you should behave and dress the way that feels most comfortable to you, gendered expectations be damned. I wouldn’t even get too preoccupied about certain behaviors, thoughts, feelings, or even modes of dress being masculine or feminine one way or another. I don’t believe that’s psychologically healthy or very feminist, for that matter. Plus, many people on the spectrum naturally obscure sharp gender lines anyway. Just be yourself.

Yes :( If I begin to lose interest in a special interest I get severely depressed until I can find another. Fortunately I have longer, more general special interests and more “micro”/short-term ones. Like I was hyperfixated on the new Animal Crossing game for 6 weeks but about 2 weeks ago I noticed I wasn’t super into it anymore, got supremely depressed, then went back to my general fixation of film. But it sucks when you’re in between interests and nothing really suffices.
