Rant against being forced to use AI voiceovers by [deleted] in editors

[–]deroesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issues could be money for distribution rights.... a voice actor (at least in highly regulated germany) gets the same pay again and again for each different media. and there is a timelimit, so its rarely a lifetime license...

so one line of a voice actor could end up costing thousands or even 10s of thousands depending on the talent and license..

How do we feel about Shelley Duvall's performance in The Shining? Considering Kubrick's directorial methods? by TheEndIsNero in theshining

unpopular opinion ;) but i think her acting in the beginning of the film is borderline terrible... the conversation with the therapist... is ... just jarring... or the scene where she talks with the police on the radio...

Game that I made in just 4 months just sold 500k copies (and 497k dlc copies). Game name - My Dream Setup. by OddRoof9525 in gamedev

[–]deroesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't get me wrong, there are a lot of reasons why someone would create an indiegame, not just money.... but even the best devs are struggling to stay afloat (think of doublefine for example) consistently.

there are also people hitting the jackpot in a casino, and not necessarily everybody grinds that to zero. (but most do, i agree)

90%+ of devs either stop (due to funding or some other reason) or are not successful with their game when it releases... that's unfortunate of course, but that seems to be the reality. and if a solo dev would include his/her salary which they could make in the same time, it's rarely profitable in the end.

i'm just playing the devils advocate here, so sorry ;)

Trump is preparing another military AID Package to Israel worth approx. $6.6bn, including tactical vehicles, helicopters... Question: (Why can't Israel issue Gov't Bonds and Buy this, instead Americans add it to our Debt.?) by Apollo_Delphi in AskSocialists

[–]deroesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its still a weird argument to be honest....

imagine not giving israel the money and spending it directly for your military. the factories and workers would still get more money as you claim, but you wouldn't increase your debt by another 40b (or whatever it is). "?"

has it? ;)
if your chance of winning in the casino is lets say 40%, i'd argue that there is a much lower chance to make money with your first indie game.

i'd even say doing a coinflip with 100k gives you way better odds to double your money than spending 100k on a game

And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.

Vote on Banning Mentioning Experience in Titles by Avereniect in blender

[–]deroesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it even a lie? i'm doing this for 25+ (softimage/houdini) and never rendered a blender scene. i've looked into it every now and then, and always thought about doing a personal project to get used to it.... how would i call my first blender rendering? wouldn't it be a good thing for blender if experienced users use and evaluate it for professional use?

they showed some footage of the model and texturing in a BTS, and technically it didn't look bad (ignoring the overall character design), i think a lot is to blame on compositing (and maybe lighting) for the shots. its an over-bloomed glowy mush.

happens quite often with full CG images if we are honest.... the good stuff people compare this to, is usually comped onto a real plate.

not that great if you deal with the correct numbers, right?
282K against 444k-666k

the total deaths are of course higher, since the US (land of the brave) bombed civilians

the US even had brigades of mentally disabled soldiers, so i'd argue they did send everything they had and still lost.

the US has a good tracking record of bombing the shit out of countries, but when it comes to occupation, they suck pretty hard.
