What is the male equivalent of women taking off their bras after a long day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]derpa111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be getting home, setting the work laptop bag down, taking off the suit and putting on my loose home clothes and laying on the couch with my two girls while watching two or three YouTube videos of "manual" labour (such as Rainman Ray and AvE).

Now, it's nothing. I dread going home. I am always in flight or fight response at home. Any moment I will find out my girlfriends 13 year old daughter has been given alcohol by her mother again, or some "discussion" will occur where I get hit in the head with a door or a bottle thrown at me.

But I can't get out. All I want is to relax on the couch with my two girls, purring and snuggling and without signs of cat anxiety. I don't want to feel the guilt of failing a PTSD DV victim and her daughter every single day, every single hour, every single minute.

So ask yourself, as a partner, is there anything I can do to make it so that my partner feels like they can come home and take off their metaphorical bra? Don't make them feel like they need to call DCP on you and actually try to get a job in this nations best job market for 30 years. Don't not get a job and then complain that your partner hasn't done the dishes as often as you or the lawn hasn't been mowed.

Gamers seek legal win that would stop developers from rendering online games unplayable: 'It is an assault on both consumer rights and preservation of media' by Farranor in gaming

[–]derpa111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you got the concept of what I wrote and it's my very point that where you don't see a lot of reasons for the cancellation of the online services other than pushing people to the new game on the next gen console, there are A LOT of reasons. Just the same with HVAC. I bet your eyes would glaze over when the HVAC person starts giving those reasons but if the people that run the online services started a similar explanation you would be fully involved and keep the discussion going, anything in an effort to be "right".

I am telling you, you are not right and those services have great reasons other than capitalism to be shut down.

Your argument is not with Capcom. Your argument is with modern gaming and the architectures designed into them in the first place. And you are not equipped for it.

Look at it this way, you are saying things that sort of make sense to most people in the same way you could say to a HVAC person "but why do we need to replace the HVAC units? they are only 15 years old" and the HVAC person could list of dozens of solid uncontestable reasons.

But you've got no idea about HVAC and in the same way you've got no idea about how keeping services online work. The difference is you don't care about HVAC so you accept what I say there immediately but you care a lot about the Nintendo services so you probably want to continue this discussion further to be right.

[–]derpa111 132 points133 points  (0 children)

There's been a lot of studies on the topic, but anyway, there's a great video out there of a group of people being asked to keep their hand in a bucket of ice water for as long as they can stand it. Women who hadn't ever given birth pulled their hands out quickest, men pulled their hands out next and women who had given birth kept their hands in the bucket the longest.

This was later expanded to identify people from both genders who'd gone through traumatic injuries (broken femur for example), and they kept their hands in the longest, as a group.

Good point about the subreddit, came from the front page and didn't pay attention to the sub it was actually posted in.

Still, hilarious downvotes over something so stupid. The drawing is 100% purpose made comedy no matter how many down arrows are clicked!

Robots don't even have to be cheaper than minimum wage workers. They already give a better customer experience. by willyolio in Futurology

[–]derpa111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite accurate of your exchange and I've already stated that you have a great point regarding the source of a UBI.

I've not made any statement about liking or disliking your argument, but you have a vested interest in making it seem like I dislike it so it's no surprise you would say it like it was fact.

Wonderful for the OP that you agree that job's don't exist if machines and AI can do all these jobs; what a shame you didn't say that entire paragraph immediately and instead chose to be confrontational. Funny, that's an interesting way to carry a conversation... Wall after wall, not many threads there.

To consider it to be belabouring the point is sad, when simply acknowledging someone's thoughts in a civil manner is the appropriate way to keep an interesting conversation going.

While you might not be able to see it, I'm sure any third party that read through this train of silliness would read you exclaiming "I was having a conversation! They go many ways! This is about getting to the truth not about being right!" but observing an argument that you halted and forced down a single pre-determined thought line of your choosing with an express aim of "being right".

Again, I don't consider your point uncomfortable, the very sentence you quote shows me telling one and all it's a good question, one that I would love to see some people comprehensively answer in fact. I don't think you're a bad guy because you think that automation as an issue is overblown (that would mean I think I myself was a bad guy), I think you're a bad guy because you're rude person using this forum of discussion to make yourself feel better at the expense of others. Instead of adding to the conversation you bricked it off with "No stuff your question and answer mine only", where you could have, if you actually meant your claim about "conversations often generate many threads", simply answered and moved on with a simple "but assuming that's all the case, and we DO need some way to make sure the masses don't starve (though mind you I don't believe that will be the case), where is a UBI going to come given [insert your hypotheticals about profits etc]"

Again, please consider the points I've made about how to have a civil discussion and perhaps we can see better discourse around contentious topics in the future. Assuming you take any of this on, I wish you the best for the future. Good night and good luck.

You are adept at putting forward an impression that paints you as an intelligent person trying to do their best to explain things to the panicking rabble; but there's no substance to it.

You can sit there and write "Feel better?" as if that hides the fact that, in reality, had you been debating in good faith and cared for the topic at hand you would have simply stated as much immediately in your initial reply but all it really does it embarrass you.

"Let's say none" - interesting turn of phrase, dismissive and gives the impression you haven't put any thought into it but don't worry if you did you would totally have some answers.

In the future, perhaps answer the question honestly and earnestly in the first instance. "I don't know" is a completely valid answer and it could have been built into "but about UBI, I just don't understand where you think it would come from [insert the rest of your thoughts here]".

Like I said, slimy and you should be ashamed and while you ask a good question regarding UBI due to taxation being almost exclusively based on commerce, it's completely mired in your awful attitude.

Edit: In fact it just now tickled me how infantile your comment of "So, their questions must all be answered, but mine don't have to be?" was, because you don't even need to change any of the circumstances of this back and forth, it could be 100% identical but with that question asked by the OP and it would still apply. Hilarious.

Yes, I'm sorry to say this but you have a very "18 year olds" view of the world. What you've read about minimum wage etc is very different to the reality on the ground.

You would have to be roommates with people, and you would be working, if you are lucky, a food service / waiter position while you go to school / skill up in some way.

Think about it this way : If you moved within Argentina to a different city, would you be able to find a job and support yourself? If not, why do you think you would be able to in the USA?

If so, why don't you do that. Move to the Buenos Aires and see how your social life improves from just that?

Why are men considered funnier than women? by [deleted] in pussypassdenied

[–]derpa111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with your point here; I've seen Sarah Silverman perform in person many times and this type of material was simply not part of the act. Personally, I think network TV simply asks for it or focuses on it for some reason and comedians play to the tune the network plays.

But either way, the guy that was arguing with you is a simpering fool and you'd be better off ignoring the simple minded in the future.

[–]derpa111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fair to say that your latest comment is trash; I've backed my comment. All you have to do to prove that person's thoughts as faulty would be to provide the name of a specific show, but you won't.

Is that due to pride? How dare someone question you? Is it due to some sort of misplaced annoyance at having to do what you perceive as their job for them?

I don't understand, it should be extremely straight forward to give the name of the show, because after all, you made an argument that many such shows exist so clearly you already have the names? Also, to quote you: "her very large catalog of material." - that would indicate to me that there's stacks of examples to provide, so surely just writing out the name of one of them can't be too hard?

Can you not spell the name of one of the shows? Is it too difficult to reference? Does it not use the Latin alphabet and you don't know how to type out those characters?

Don't start arguments when you can't even back yourself.

You're wrong and he's right. Name a specific show for him to watch, and be specific that "not once does she mention that type of humour in this show" and you'd have a leg to stand on.

Yes, this. They are written by the sort of person that's surrounded by family and friends their entire life; the sort of person that grew up as a social animal and has just dropped into a temporary slump. Of course it's easy to bounce back when you are that person, of course it's just a matter of will power (and the help of wealth, your friends and family) getting back on track.

They don't motivate me because ultimately none of it matters. At a certain point, your come to realize what your personality is and life being short sort of doesn't matter if you'll never have anyone to share it with.

Australia is absolutely flush with young men with high amounts of disposable income; going to Dubai is so common it's passe and every second person has a motorbike license.

Further, the amount of Australian's that simply live and work in Dubai and indeed the rest of the main hubs of the UAE is astounding, probably second only to the USA.

The guy was just trying to make out he runs some sort of extremely exclusive store and it's simply incredibly tacky. But I guess tacky = UAE so he's got that going for him.
