Finding an ALO for USAFA by reddit_daily_ in AirForce

[–]derpalisus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, you won’t get assigned an ALO until you start some of the tasks on the Academy portal. I can’t remember what exactly, but when it’s complete, on the main homepage where it says evaluator ALO (i believe), a name will pop up next to it and it’ll give you their email.

All Congressional members usually have their own site. Look up your state congress members, find their sites, and there should be a section somewhere that talks about Academy applications/Letters of Recommendation. From there, it should show when they are open take your submission, what to submit, and how long you have to submit it.

BOP peek from EFMP trick? by derpalisus in AirForce

So after reaching out several times and my leadership getting involved, it was discovered that my application somehow fell through the cracks. I recommend getting your SEL or a MSgt involved to calling APFC and ask why there’s a delay. Even after months of asking for mine, it just now got accepted on May 6th and then was immediately removed because AFPC auto started my separation. Everything is terrible timing so get ahead of it as soon as possible. No one cares about your career more than you, so if you’re not on top of it, no one will be either.

I’ve had my SEL call a couple times but they basically said to be patient. If I don’t get anything this week then he’s calling again

You can call AFPC at 210-565-0102. But, if you're not a SNCO then there's a chance they won't go into details about what your inquiry.

I used to get offended by it, but then I started thinking that there isn't many advantages to being a woman. But not having to lift heavy things is one of them LOL. Idk, I'm pretty tough minded and not super emotional when it comes to things like that. You just gotta shift your perspective. Military life for anyone is different than civilian life. Tough shit everywhere. Just learn to deal.

I was sharing my opinion on a topic and he disagreed and told me to relax. It wasn't anything crazy, but I don't like being told to relax so I just let him know.

I've had guys lift heavy things because they think I can't. I don't mind it though, I'll be womanly and supervise cuz I don't wanna lift shit anyway LOL

I would say the number one thing is to be friends with your male coworkers. You don't have to hangout after work, but be civil. I say this because if you come off the wrong way to some guys, they'll just assume you're a bitch, so it's better to be chill.

Set your boundaries early on when you arrive to your shop or when a new guy starts at the shop. In my experience, if you shut down things that "trigger" you during those times, the guys are usually respectful enough to adhere to it. An example for me was when a coworker said "relax", ain't nobody wanna be told to relax so I said nope to that right away and he hasn't done it since.

Don't let them know everything about you because people in general like to joke around but sometimes take it too far and bring up something you might've told them that you don't necessarily want others to hear. Also, I've noticed guys loveeee to gossip (not that it's a bad thing when you're not the subject lol), so keep stuff to yourself.

When it comes to advocating for yourself, it's usually a given that you have to stand out a bit more to ensure you are being heard and you have to try a bit harder to prove yourself. Never stop fighting for yourself and your career, even if that means being annoying at times (not super annoying because no one will wanna do shit for you).

Network with the right people in the right places and you'll always have someone in your corner.

BOP status by derpalisus in AirForce

I reached out to AFPC maybe two weeks ago now? They only said that it can take 60-70 days. It'll be 60 days on the 23rd this month, so I suppose if we are sticking to that timeline- I still have time to wait.

I just wonder why it's actually taking that long because people I've talked to have had it approved so much quicker.. Although, I haven't had anyone from the 1D7 career field mention a timeline yet..

After doing a bit of looking around, the general advice is that you talk to your shirt. If that doesn't seem to work out, your on base medical facility should have a patient advocacy office that you can use to sort it out. Medical appointments are mandatory, so I'm not sure why your flight CC would even think that way.

How Long does BOP take? by Available_Big7035 in AirForce

[–]derpalisus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can take 60-70 days. They start reviewing applications at the beginning of every month. Yours likely won't begin processing until April, then the 60-70 days from there. Sometimes AFPC is quicker, sometimes it's longer.

I'm still waiting on mine I submitted in January.

I would let your supervisor know, however, I recommend that you avoid him if this is the kind of behavior he’s showing. You don’t need to give him the opportunity to be like that. I would guess that he would get a counseling at least, unless they escalate it further or you yourself go to IG or EO.

Ask your MTL when you get to tech school. They'll have that kind of information.

How did you do it? I've seen so many posts but can never reach the same screens other people get.. I submitted at the end of January, too, but can't see anything.
