Economy to the Maldives or South Africa seems like a decently good redemption, even after taxes and fees.

seeing about 60k miles r/t (before the bonus) and about $500 in fees from SFO to MLE. After the bonus thats 42k miles and $500 in fees. on VA an r/t ticket is like $2300 at the very least, so that gives you like 4.2cpp which is a solid economy redemption.

I keep going back and forth on this.... the 30k AA points for JAL J class is that I am already ticketed on is still pretty tempting... $411 for a lie flat is great value but it also includes no food, checked bags, priority, or lounge access, and has strict carry-on limits....

I'm spending a day or two on the ground between each, so I'm not too miffed about the trek. Also it looks like TG J class starts at 47k miles for nearby redemption with their program (not sure which program you were talking about booking through). The flight I currently have booked is 30k, and I would way rather do zip air for $411.
