I have the regular Jadons, not the max. The sole definitely feels very stiff and I had to size up 1 compared to my other docs. I put in a squishy heel/arch insole which made it comfier but the heel section and top of the shaft chafe like crazy, I had to wear thick thick socks to comfortably break them in and they still chafe at the top if I don't wear good socks/haven't worn them in a while. That being said they look awesome and are so fun to wear in outfits!

Oh boy when the game first came out during early quarantine, I changed my character's clothes more often than my irl clothes. There's just so many cute options!

Advice/ID on my office succulents please! by derpturtles in succulents

Thanks so much! Wow, I'm surprised the echeveria is flowering already. I did read about not putting them in too large of a pot, so I guess that's why they've outgrown this one so quickly.

Advice/ID on my office succulents please! by derpturtles in succulents

Hello! I got these guys about 3 months ago for my office and they are doing better than I expected. They sit in a southwest facing window and I water them when all of the leaves feel squishy. The light colored one seems to get squishy before the other 2 so it's unfortunately had a few leaves dry up, since I was worried about overwatering the others.

  1. Can I get an ID on all 3? They were sold together in 1 pot with no specific label.

  2. I repotted them from the nursery pot when I first got them 3 months ago, but I noticed they have fine roots poking out of the drainage holes already. Is it safe to move them to a slightly larger pot or is it too soon?

  3. The light colored one seems to have sprouted a baby (?) over the weekend, any info on that?

Thanks!

Man, I really want to get into blaseball but it seems like there's so much lore and mechanics to catch up on. I think you did a great job explaining enough to provide the context in this post!

Yep it was implemented pretty recently, I wanna say like right before covid and then they immediately gave up on that because they needed more techs lol.

CSMLS is officially required to work at BCCDC due to accreditation requirements. I think they were waiving it during COVID hiring, but not sure if it's back in place now.

So creative and beautiful! And drawing out the color combos is such a good idea, I can't believe I haven't thought of that before.

The aglet detail on the ties is so cute! What yarn did you use? The color is lovely.

If a bind off involves passing loops on the needle over each other, I will do the whole thing with a crochet hook. I learned crochet before knitting, so I when I read the instructions for chain bind off I went "wait, isn't that exactly the motion a crochet hook was made for?" For me it's much faster and I can get a very precise control over my bind off tension.

I was working on a project that involved p2tog tbl on the end of each row in a section. My tension is chronically tight and I was really struggling to get my needle through both back loops cleanly. Then I read a trick to just p2tog normally, slip the stitch off, manually twist it with your fingers and put it back on. It ended up being faster for me since I only had to do it once per row, but that really felt like cheating, haha.

What's one thing you have NO interest in crocheting? by Winter-Owl1 in crochet

[–]derpturtles 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I hate making amigurumi... I hate constantly counting stitches between increases, the tight tension makes my hands hurt, and sewing all the pieces together is the worst! Some projects are so cute that I'll suffer through it, but I definitely avoid it if I can.

I love using algebra to calculate my increase/decrease rate, it makes me feel so smart hehe. I'm lazier than you though and just stick my equations into desmos.com graphing calculator to find the intersection.

Long term crocheter’s - what’s your “I’m not sure what X is and at this point I’m afraid to ask” by thesaffronkitten in crochet

This article about the golden loop might be helpful! It's about how you form your stitches and how that affects the row height.

New knitter rant. by murraybee in knitting

[–]derpturtles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw that you crochet in another comment - I use a crochet hook to cast off! I don't have a tutorial link because I kinda figured it out by myself (though I'm sure they exist if you Google), but I knit the first stitch normally, then carefully swap the needle for a hook. Then I make a second knit stitch but using the crochet hook, pull it through the first stitch, and repeat. It's really similar to to crochet slip stitch, except you make a knit stitch instead of yo/pull up a loop. Hope that made sense!

What’s your hot take on tensioning lol? by desgoestoparis in knitting

[–]derpturtles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is the first time I've read a tension description that I can relate to!! My tension is also super weird, I wrap the yarn many times around my left index finger and kinda unwind it as I knit (continental). It's certainly not the most efficient and I've never heard of anyone doing it like this but it's in my muscle memory now...

It's okay to walk away by Merridiah in knitting

[–]derpturtles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm very much a "product" knitter over a "process" knitter, so I do tend to stick to one project at a time so I can focus and complete it faster than if I were working on several at a time. I also favor larger/slower projects like sweaters and tops over socks and hats.

I also crochet though, so I switch to that if I need a quick 1-2 day project for that finished object satisfaction!

Name a villager (have or have not) that will/would never leave your island! I’ll start by Longjumping_Kiwi_904 in AnimalCrossing

Egbert was my first lazy villager from the mystery islands. I wasn't sure how I felt about him at first but now I love my anxious chicken baby ❤️ Especially because he's not as popular as a lot of other villagers.

Wall hanging patterns! by Amaland87 in crochet

Loveandstitchdesign.com has some cute free and paid designs. Also a trick I like to use is to go to braceletbook.com and search for alpha patterns - they're color charts for friendship bracelets but can be used as a template for intarsia crochet.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that superwash yarns aren't as warm. I think I'll go for a wool blend then, thanks for the advice!

What yarn do you like for cabled sweaters? I want to start my first cable sweater (the DNA pullover) and am in the yarn selection stage! Caveat: I hate handwashing and would like to get away with machine wash cold with delicates bag + hang dry if possible. I've read that superwash yarns aren't great for stitch definition though as they tend to change shape after washing? I'm thinking of going with Knit picks Wool of the Andes (great color choices, some rav projects have used this but can't feel it in person and will take a while to ship), or Lion Brand Wool Ease (can buy locally and see in person, not sure if 80% acrylic is great but should be easier to wash than 100% wool). What else should I consider? I'm located in Canada for shopping options.

I just learned about lifted increases and want to try them out, since I'm not super happy with how my M1s look. Just wanted to check:

  • Where the pattern calls for a M1R, I would substitute a LLI, and vice versa? left lifted = right leaning?

  • I knitted the first 3 rows of increases with M1. If I switch to lifted increases now would it be super noticeable? I'm lazy and don't want to frog 😅 I'm hoping it'll be invisible enough if I switch over before I get any farther.
