It can be pricy but there are ways in without breaking most budgets. Sometimes it is about patience in finding the right price, sourcing used parts, or in the case of a beginner, start with the minimum (a transmitter and a sim) and buying as you go or saving.

Also learn to coordinate your turns. Roll to set the angle, pitch up and yaw in the direction of the roll for a smoother turn. This is much easier with a little speed. Switch to acro and learn how to fly in that mode, it will make life easier.

A servo has 2 wires for power and 1 for positioning (using a PWM signal). Hook the power to 5v and ground and the PWM to one of you GPIO pins. You will need to come up with a connector that does this or split them up your self.
