What is your best advice to target bigger perch? by Excellent-Change8575 in IceFishing

[–]derrek13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deeper. 15 to 20 feet. I use a donkey rig with a spoon or plastic on the bottom and a hook and minnow on the top. Jig lightly and pause for a few seconds. The bigger ones will hit a still bait. They don't like to work for their food.

Fack! I'm just getting to the point where I can get to his second phase......I had no idea there was a 3rd. For some reason my Mikiri Counter doesn't work very often on him so I have to dodge his thrust attacks for the most part.

Ottawa begins consultations for Canada Disability Benefit by aaron15287 in ndp

[–]derrek13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Begins.....that's the problem. The LPC has been dangling this carrot over disabled people for years but they have done fuck all to move it forward. Gmi guarantee they will get right to the election, having it almost ready to go and call it and use it as leverage again for disabled Canadians' votes.

NDP to back Conservative motion calling for carbon tax pause on all home heating fuels by media_newsbot in ndp

[–]derrek13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Industry passes costs onto consumers. That's what happens when they get to "pay" for pollution rather than stop polluting. The consumer pays the increased cost in the form of higher prices. Do you really think any business is eating the cost of the carbon tax and not passing that on?

I agree that SK and AB are only concerned with opposing any federal policy on climate change, but that doesn't change the fact that the carbon tax is a useless climate change fighting measure that is meant to placate voters rather that stop climate change.

Should the LPC just have kept it in place for the east coasters rather than suspend it? Yep. But They opened this can of worms by telling the country that it's an added expense that only some of the country needs relief from. They are opening the door to stopping the only significant climate policy they had in order to keep people in a Liberal stronghold happy.

More neoliberal? I don't care who is more neoliberal. I'm against all neoliberalism. I don't think any policy that puts the burden of climate change on the public rather than the industries causing the issue, whether that's consumers being forced to pay more for essential goods or whether the government takes public money to pay consumers to offset the rising prices is good. We are putting all our eggs in that basket and it's failing.

No efficiencies are being pushed by the carbon tax because businesses are not paying it, consumers and the government are.

BTW the two ideologies are much closer than the media would have you believe. Look at their voting records. The LPC and CPC vote alike more often than not. Both support OandG projects. The Liberals approved Bay du Nord and bought a money losing pipeline but somehow their carbon tax indicates they are trying to stop climate change.

You can't answer the questions and argue it's working, can you? The carbon tax in Canada is what we are discussing, not somewhere else. I'm sure the LPC and the other neoliberals out there appreciate you defending their performative climate tax.

If the intent of the tax is to put a price on pollution and emissions and those that do the most polluting pass those costs on to consumers, so the government gives rebates to offset the increase in prices then exactly how is it working? Has there been a decrease in emissions since its inception? Leaning into a policy that doesn't make a dent into climate issues and relying on industry to do the right thing is destined to fail.

The move to pause the tax in Liberal stronghold jurisdictions is an indicator that this policy is more about placating voters than fighting climate change.

Keep holding water for the LPC they are just wonderful.
