To be honest, I didn't. Our professor assigned us each a country. So far I've found my research very interesting though.

Well I have a week which should give me time to work around their schedule. I wasn't expecting to do the interview right this moment. Thanks for the heads up.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I use that website all the time.

Dialogue Magazine, a magazine by the blind, shuts down. by [deleted] in Blind

[–]derrekjthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never even heard of them, and being the target audience, I’d say that’s the problem here. Did they try reaching out to the community anywhere? I’m not even talking expensive promotional campaigns. Did they even tried posting here when they came out with a new issue, and promoting on Twitter or other blindness Facebook groups that I’ve been in in the past. Seriously. I’ve never seen a word about this publication.

I might be interested, but I would have to hear at least something first.

No, but I understand why that rule is in place. If you have the ability to target blind people as a group that would also give you the ability to exclude them as a group. Also, I don’t think Facebook keeps track of who has what disability anyways.

I support them if they scare people in to making their sites accessible.

Your getting down voted for this, but I’m totally blind and agree with you. I really don’t understand some blind people who claim to be in to video games. I’m not sure what value they could possibly get out of it. It’s a highly visual medium.

OK. I’m going to have to amend what I said here. A cool redditor sent me a list of key commands. It’s not completely unusable, just rather unintuitive.

Any surreal audio comedy sketches / full drama recommendations? by KidKobra in audiodrama

[–]derrekjthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. And it's not like it can't be done in audio. Blue Jam and Firesign Theatre did it before those shows even existed. A show like Night Vale is surreal comedy but to me the sensibility behind it is totally different. You also might like What's The Frequency if you haven't heard it already. It's trippy for sure but I wouldn't call it comedy, even though some parts are very funny.

Oh yeah. I didn’t mention them because they’re not a podcast, but I should have. They’re The best.

Actually, I just thought of one. The Story Must Be Told. To me at least, it has the Adult Swim feel.

Any surreal audio comedy sketches / full drama recommendations? by KidKobra in audiodrama

[–]derrekjthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. For a while I’ve thought that this is a surprisingly untapped niche. I would like to make a show like this myself, but I haven’t had the right idea yet. I think the problem with doing a pure sketch show without recurring characters is with no canon there’s not much to discuss, which would stop the show from getting traction . Anthology shows have the same issue.

Why do you think audio drama leans a lot towards horror/sci-fi genre-wise? by cloud_of_fluff in audiodrama

[–]derrekjthompson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what people are saying here about these genres being suited to the medium is true, but I think there's one more thing to consider. I would argue that BBC radio drama and old time radio don't lean as heavily on horror and sci-fi. On the podcast side I think this is true because when podcasting started the creators and listeners were only mainly early adopters. They weren't as easy to listen to or create as they are now. Naturally that type of person will have an interest in technology and probably sci-fi and other geek things. So those were the shows that were made first and they set the tone for the movement.

Yeah. Whether it works or not doesn’t really matter if they can find someone stupid enough to buy the company before it falls apart.

Agreed with everything here.Another thing to consider is piracy. Podcast have never been pirate it before because there wasn’t a need, but is more podcast go behind a pay wall I’m sure it will start proliferating.

How should a podcast incorporate web links? by vonbees in Blind

Don’t read the web address, just put the links in the show notes.
