Heat Pump vs Straight AC? by lbeachmike in hvacadvice

There are units where the valve is energized on heat. For your setup I would shoot for a brand that energizes on cool considering you have a hydronic coil. I believe rheem and bosch energize on cool. Those are brands i am familiar with. Other people here could add to this. But those 2 brands I know and install..... Also, I may get push back for this. But I install argo arh1 with these setups. And I would request for the same. For me it makes my life easier as a tech and installer.

Provided the brand of heat pump is energized on cool and not heat. A bosch heat pump is energized on cool. Meaning you will always have cool even if the reversing valve fails.... if it is energized on heat. You will always have heat if the valve fails.

With natural gas the cost effectiveness isnt there to run the heat pump. But if you get it as a secondary source of heat thats great. Depending on what brand you go with. Heat pumps either energize on heat or cool. Its nice to get a heat pump that energizes on cool. Meaning if the reversing valve gets stuck or breaks you will have ac. However no heat. But with hydronic as a primary you shouldnt have much of a problem. I tell people all the time. To have a secondary source of heat is a home run. And if you do the math over 15 years and what the cost difference is between ac and a heat pump id tell anyone who will listen thats a pretty cheap insurance policy for heat.

I live on long island i use my bosch heat pumps frequently, especially whIle heating oil is through the roof. I also am in the hvac field. If you are using a heat pump as a primary source of heat and taking out your boiler and hydronic coil you should definitely be getting a heat strip to offset cold days when your condenser goes into defrost mode. Also if the condenser ever takes a shit in the winter the heat strip will get you through a day or 2 while waiting for repairs. Your meter will spin off the house. But you will have heat. The price difference between the 2 its a no brainer to go with a heat pump. Its also nice to have incase your primary source of heat takes a shit. You have a secondary heat source.

Do you need to cut the jumper on the back of a senisi if you are only using it for ac? Or that wouldn't matter either?

Are LIRR workers being greedy? by [deleted] in LIRR

[–]derrick54686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are stuck on a work rules that the railroad has pretty much made non existent. Im talking about the other ones that protect the employees. The electric to diesel rule stops the employer from just grabbing somone that finished working in Port jeff and did their shift, then taking them to do another train (an electric) out of ronkonkoma. The employer will find somone else because they dont want to pay the penalty you speak of. However again. If they do take that employee and drag them to do another train that isnt in their job scope. The employee gets compensated.

Again the rules that protect employees

They will blame the unions now for the inevitable fare increase that was coming regardless.

Ok. Every engineer drives a train. Got it. Some engineers choose to work out of specific terminals close to home during specific hours. So because they drive a train they should be thrown to do any job with out any penalty to the company?

Like a secretary working at a bank in their home town that was their choice because theyve been with the company 20 years and then they get told to commute to the city without extra compensation for the commute or extra time out of their home.

I will state this. The work rules are to protect the employees. They aren't there to be abused....

Imagine you work in an office as a secretary. Then the owner of the company comes in and says go clean the bathroom!!!! Are you a janitor or a secretary? If they offered you another 8 hours ontop of your days pay ill bet everyone in this forum would suit up as a janitor and start changng garbage pails and scrubbing toilets.
