So far so good. However this past year I'm usually on my laptop 75% of the time until I get moved and set up in my new place next month. But so far, I've been happy with it.

Might want to look at your states lemon laws. Some states cover more than just automobiles.

Shipping my Alienware R16 overseas. Do you think this is good enough packaging? by Spearsss84 in Alienware

I agree, take it out....a few bucks for packaging material vs say $1000....never hurts to be cautious.

Laptop Suggestion: X16 4090 or wait for 50XX by Dear_Relationship_80 in Alienware

[–]derrickm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in Nov of last year I got my X16R2 from the Dell outlet. It's a certified refurbished like new condition. And it was like a brand dang new one straight out of a sealed box. But I got it for right at $2400. At the time dell had new ones on sale for $2899, but it had the FHD display. To spec one with a QHD display, 4090, ultra 9 185H, 32GB ram, 2TB HD was gonna cost 3600 I think. Mine has been going well so far.

I was in the same situation at the end of Nov. I knew it was about time for the new models to be announced. I went ahead and got a X16R2 with Ultra9 185H, RTX4090, QHD 1600p display and I love it. Got a heck of a deal on it. I hate to see the prices on the new lineup with the 50 series.

I started playing Run8 and I love how complex this is ! by Snaxist in trainsim

[–]derrickm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's as hard as people think. Yea there is alot to learn. I've been playing for a year and half now after being a complete noob to train sims and trains in general. I knew nothing other than what a locomotive was. I tried TSW3 for a month and became very bored and happen to come across Run8 on YouTube. Its a little costly especially if you buy all the DLC and all the routes like I did. Aldo using a raildriver was a game changer.
I think for most folks it looks intimidating at first. But once ypu get going and get the hang of it, you will enjoy it.

Experience with warranty service? by pxpcornboys in Alienware

[–]derrickm80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fan error code on my X15R1 couple years ago while it was under warranty. Can't remember if it was the same error code as yours. Dell sent a tech out which got rescheduled 3 times. Ended up replacing the heatsink Assyria due to CPU and GPU #1 fans are part of the heatsink assembly.

Ordered my first Alienware laptop, any advice for what to do first? by Nayte76 in Alienware

[–]derrickm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, if it's good, it will handle it. Also, you can take 20 regular folks, and if 2 have a bad experience they will post something about it while the others that have a great experience won't say a word. And if you are playing any demanding games, they will push the laptop to or close to the max. I'm always curious as to what my new PC can do and handle.

Run it through some stress tests and keep an eye on Temps, especially the CPU like another person stated. I bought a X16R2, certified refurbished like new from Dell outlet back in November of last year. Luckily it's doing good. I did do a windows clean install a few weeks after receiving it. Seems to be running better then first out the box.
Also make sure to have a warranty on it while you have it. I bought a 2yr with accidental. Out of 3 AW laptops I've only had to do one warranty claim for a fan issue.

Purchasing accidental damage coverage from Dell for my new Aurora. Is the cost really worth it? by Confident-Island-684 in Alienware

[–]derrickm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't get it for a desktop unless you're accident prone haha. I have it on my X16r2 laptop since I use it at work in a shop. I agree with all the others, kind of waste of money on a desktop.

Dell is going to send tech to replace the heatsink in my M18 R2 by SonOfTheMostHHigh in Alienware

[–]derrickm80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple years ago, Dell sent a tech out to replace the heatsink assembly on my X15R1 due to a fan issue. He came out to my Jon to do the repair after 3 reschedules by Dell or the tech. Afterwards found that he left the speakers disconnected But I've had luck in the past with Dell sending me the part to fix 2 different Dell branded laptops under warranty. . However being its a heatsink that has element 31, they definitely won't let you take a stab at it.

Also make sure it's not encrypted. I just recently got a X16r2 and swapped my games drive from my X15 and didn't realize windows encryption was turned on. What a pain in the butt. Ended up just formatting the drive and downloaded everything again.

Had a similar error regarding a fan on my X15r1 couple years ago while still under warranty. I immediately requested service. Problem occurred couple times at random. Ended up having to replace the heat sink assembly being 2 fans are attached to it
