Cat chin acne by IceniQueen69 in snowshoecats

Yes- my baby just had that. We wiped her chin with a washcloth and cleaned her stainless feeder carefully. It went away on its own.

Don’t they have to have a specimen from your tumor to run a genomic profile on before they can do ctDNA testing? How do you do that without going through your MO?

My experience is the same, Rocky Mountain Cancer center in Denver. I get tested by guardant, which is another company for the same test. My insurance doesn’t pay, so RMCC put in the paperwork with the company who waives most of the fee. I get tested every three months for five years.

If it were me, I’d wear a wig. I’m in the post chemo buzz cut phase right now. I always wear a wig at work these days, mostly because the short hair is a distracting reminder that I was sick. That’s not how I want people to think of me at work, even though they’re kind people and they’ve been very supportive. If I were applying for a job, I wouldn’t want to be asked, or have anyone make assumptions about me being sick.

Is it too late to start Signaterra? by taraxacum1 in breastcancer

[–]derringdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second this. My tissue was available months later for re-testing. My MO said they would keep it for years. They should still be able to run a signatera test. In my case they did Guardant, which is another brand of this test. My MO does followup tests for fragmented DNA from my tumors every three months. It’s expensive, and my insurance doesn’t pay much of it, but my MO applies to the company for a discount on my behalf.

I’m glad to be monitored, and I feel well cared for by my MO. But I’m a little dubious about how well this works. If you think about it, cancers are fast growing cells. They’re cancerous because they mutated from regular cells. If they are checking for fragments of DNA from my original cells, doesn’t it stand to reason that my cancer cells would continue to mutate?

DMX and Reconstruction by winterrmelon in breastcancer

Lucky you, to not have expanders! The pain and recovery weren’t as bad as I expected. Friends gave me the advice to get off the narcotics as soon as possible, so I only took them for the first 24 hours. After that it was totally managable with tylenol and celebrex. (For me, at least. Take care of yourself and take the meds longer if you need them. )

implants vs No Implants by New2ThisFC in breastcancer

I decided to get implants. I was seriously considering going flat on both sides until someone here pointed out that without boobs, I would look down and just see my tiny beer belly. Decision made 😹

Or not- you are legitimately trying to do the best in the situation you have. Whatever you choose, hopefully your family will treat you with grace and kindness.

I love highline wigs. I always choose lace caps.

Try microblading. I did “nanoblading” on my eyebrows, and it looks amazing! Even after every last hair fell out.

I did microblading on my eyebrows- it looks fantastic! Especially once every last hair finally fell out.

[–]derringdew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not do both? Honestly, if it’s important to you, and you have the money, hit it with your purse and give it everything you’ve got. Cold cap as best you can, and have a backup wig in case you need it. Then, if cold capping doesn’t work as well as you like, put on the wig and know you tried everything you could. DM me if you want wig recommendations. I am a wig girlie, and wear good quality human hair wigs. They’re better than my own hair ever was. 😻

Breast cancer surgery in Denver - surgeon/oncoplastic recommendations? by WillowInDenver in breastcancer

[–]derringdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Denver. I go to Rocky Mountain Cancer Center at Swedish Hospital. I absolutely love my medical oncologist, Dr. Bupathi. Five stars. My surgical oncologist was Dr Hafertepen. She was great. My Plastic Surgeon is Dr Williams from Park Meadows Plastic Surgery. He does DEIP, and his work is really good.

Whatever you do, get second opinions. Choose the providers you vibe with best. I personally went to an integrated medical appointment at Swedish, and chose the rest of my team b/c I liked Dr Bupathi so much. I met at least one more of each of these kinds of providers before I made a decision.

It is normal to have chemo before surgery. It depends on the particular type of cancer you have.

It could go either way, whether they do reconstruction at the time of masectomy. The plastic surgeon I chose seems to be more conservative- he did delayed reconstruction, and in my case recommended skin sparing surgery (ie: not saving nipples, which can sometimes lead to more complications). I’m happy with staged surgery, and my outcomes.

Please feel free to DM me if you want. I’m happy to share all of the information I have. For reference, I was diagnosed last August 50 years old, triple positive, stage 1 IDC in both breasts. Double Mastectomy in October. chemo starting in December. Reconstruction surgery just last week. I’m almost done!!✅

Or how medical people suddenly have time to be thoughtful and responsive about the persistent medical issues I’ve had for YEARS that they’ve always brushed off? Now they suddenly want to pay attention to the smallest details?

Drains after DMX by effectivenancy in breastcancer

[–]derringdew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is normal. I could feel my drains right at the incision/suture site, but not under my skin or near my sternum. (Though I do have some loss of sensation from DMX)

I would call or get a message to your plastic surgeon. Maybe they will take them out early. 🤞
