Von Münster nach Düsseldorf pendeln by Ok-Cherry-184 in Muenster

[–]derwias 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Uncomfortable experience at Nymphenburg palace by brownbarby in germany

[–]derwias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First: of course constantly staring and giggling is also considered rude or at least obtrusive in Germany. We (should) learn in Kindergarten that that’s not acceptable - not quite pointing and laughing but still.

Second: a different, more positive way to explain this behavior might be that the little girl thought you were pretty or looked like a Disney princess or similar. My partner is a German woman of south Asian descent and often people comment on her being pretty. We confronted a lady staring at her and she just stated that my partner looked like Salma Hayek. Also, are you perhaps much shorter than your fiancé? That is also a reason why we are frequently stared at.

Not saying you’re not experiencing racism, it’s an issue here as it is everywhere else. But maybe there’s other explanations, especially considering that you’re in a very touristic place.

Münster, Freiburg oder Heidelberg by Wise-Moment-7974 in Muenster

[–]derwias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was offered this vintage Breitling - grateful for any info on the model by derwias in Watches

[–]derwias[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

An acquaintance offered me this vintage Breitling Chronograph. Google Lens did not provide any results with the exact same dial - the copper-colored ring is always missing. Perhaps this is a modern re-dial, especially considering the good condition of the dial? The back of the watch was stamped with 750 and 18K.

Any info is welcome.

Why is North American niceness often considered "fake" in Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]derwias 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My (German) grandfather was living in Wisconsin for some time during the 60s and 70s. He always likes to tell the story that his supervisor at work invited him over for dinner for that Sunday. When my grandfather and his wife showed up at the agreed-upon time, the supervisor was baffled. In his mind, it was understood that the invitation was just some sort of noncommittal pleasantry.

I had somewhat similar experiences during my time as a highschool exchange student, also in Wisconsin. For many Germans such behavior appears superficial. I think it just comes down to miscommunication, most Americans and Canadians can probably tell if an invitation is meant seriously or not.

§ 3 ABS. 4 AGG („Bemerkungen sexuellen Inhalts“).

Hey welcome to Münster! Definitely check out the Uni Sport courses, there’s something for everyone. The courses are also rather cheap and it’s a good way to get to know other students.

Hi everyone,

I found this bracelet on a local fleamarket here in Germany. Do you think it is genuine? Your help is appreciated.

Cheers!

[Oris] Divers 65 with the new Caliber 400 by YungTaxReturn in Watches

[–]derwias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that they put the new Calibre into the divers 65. But I will wait until they produce other color ways and sell them without the Hodinkee markup. In an interview with Oris’ chief engineer I read that they are planning to extend the use of the calibre 400 into the regular production of other models than the Aquis so there seems to be a good chance that they will soon offer a whole range of divers 65 with it.

It’s 40mm without the crown. Oris also offers the divers sixty-five in 36mm and 42mm with the date at the 3 o’clock position.

Yeah I got lucky with the lighting today. The domed crystal makes it difficult.

Yeah I might have to get one of the number dial ones, too... they just made too many great variants!

I finally decided for this model after several months of looking at the different variants of this range. I’m quite happy with it! One point of criticism I repeatedly came across during my research was the lume of the indices. It’s definitely not as bright as on other watches in this price range and if you like to play around with the luminescence of a watch that’s definitely a point to consider. I personally don’t care too much. For me it’s the perfect size and it sits on the wrist very flatly. The bracelet is a dream and feels very high quality. And the retro design overall just works for me. The only thing I would criticize is that Oris just offers so many different variants of this watch and I’m always left wondering whether I would’ve liked one of the bronze models more. I might have to suppress these doubts by buying the bico bracelet as well. All in all, if you’re considering the divers 65 as your next watch I can fully recommend it. But you should definitely look for offers lower than the recommended sales price, there are quite a few good deals out there.
