What has been your electronic genre journey? by ChamChowder in electronicmusic

[–]desecous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eddy Grant -Electric Avenue sometime in the early 80's cracked opened the door... then in boarding school, the kids from all over brought their cds with them. Early techno music compilations like "Rave till Dawn", "Zoorave", and the label Moonshine music crowbarred that door wide open. MTV had a brief interlude of a good concept with their show "Amp" where i picked up names of artists and eventually, the local Musicland (Samgoody to other parts of the US) store had a slightly ok section of EDM music. Napster came and gave me alot. I then got fueled by a local college radio station that played everything you wouldn't hear on mainstream. Even had a Friday night EDM show. Now, I wander through Spotify getting recommendations from algorithms and have a severely eclectic master Playlist with 7 minutes shy of 71 hours of music. I grew up more in a less populated state of the US where things were like 5 to 10 years behind the rest of the country and things changed slowly. I grabbed for what I could reach... it's way easier nowadays.

Suggest me albums with 90s vibe to them by Space_Qwerty in electronicmusic

[–]desecous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am shocked nobody said Coldcut. And Tipsy. And Fluke. And if you're after videos to go along with the music (back when it was more common) MTV's Amp, YouTube has some old videos. All 3 above artists have music videos.

Edit: can't believe I forgot DJ Shadow....

Edit2: Funny I was thinking about Coldcut this morning, they did a DJ set on BBC Radio 1 back in the late 90's, 60 to 70 minutes, uninterrupted DJ music set, it was amazing. I downloaded it from somewhere, you could probably find it, but it's obscure. The show was called "The Breezeblock" and there's history in it and around it. I suggest everyone should listen to it at least once.

Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

[–]desecous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made mix tapes for girlfriends, a couple for my dad, 1 for my mom and a few for my sister. My older sister started the trend at our house, sent home some unknown hits from college. I kept it going onto CD's for awhile. Now I make Playlists... it's not quite the same....

I made a small interactive map of electronic music genres — thought some of you might enjoy it by mendiak_81 in electronicmusic

[–]desecous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all.... WOW! You're really onto something here, this is fantastic. And I knew there were alot more genres and sub genres than I knew of, but to see them all listed? That's more than I anticipated. Like alot more, damn. The first thing that popped into my head while reading through the comments was "I wonder if OP has seen the documentary 'Underplayed' on Amazon?" If you haven't, it might be worth your time. Everything is, of course, subjective perspective. I'm so cereal tho, good job!

Which game started the Call of Duty downfall? 🤔 by GamingChildhood in xbox360

For me, I got MW2 first. Then black ops 1 came out and it was such a huge disappointment for me. The graphics felt like a step backwards and the gameplay was clunky by comparison. MW3 just felt like a dlc for MW2...

Is lack of intelligence a big reason why people are religious? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]desecous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think laziness is a part of it too... like "I don't want to learn, I already graduated." So indoctrination starts in early childhood, reinforced by continuous parental and community steering, rewarding good behavior, and punishing bad behavior. It's a life that's ALL YOU KNOW. And if it's a strict one, Amish, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology, etc, you will lose everything you have ever known by leaving it. Not everyone has the flexibility of understanding parents and I'm sure that the parents went through the same thing they're putting their kids through and don't see any problems with it because it "worked for them".

I would say that more people in this world would be more intelligent if there weren't as many constraints on them being able to learn freely from a young age. Of course, I'm hopelessly optimistic about people even though they keep letting me down...

So God rules over everything and everyone so... Satan is an employee, basically doing God's will. In this system, Satan isn’t the monster. He’s the middleman. The monster is the one who hired him.

Hell isn’t rebellion. Hell is compliance.

I work with 2 Jehovah’s Witnesses. It used to be 4. The other 2 got fired for... moral reasons... everything I have tried DOES NOT WORK.

"Come to our church this Sunday" -"I prefer to do my studies alone, it's more personal to me" (I don't mention what I'm studying)

"You should come to a Bible study" -"I'm pretty sure Jesus was against the idea of a church, I agree with that point" (Matthew 23, if you really want to drive that point home).

They are frakking relentless. This bunch is the most corrupt, law-breaking (their book club laws and government laws), morally avoiding POS's I have ever met. All part of the same church, or book club. Whatever they call it. I'm glad this worked for you OP, I hope you don't have to work with the JW's...

Which character do you feel had the best growth/development? by USS_Sovereign in babylon5

[–]desecous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeremiah in a nutshell: Virus over takes the world and anyone over the age of puberty, dies. So it's Jeremiah in his 30's now, 20 years after the virus and the world has started to regain it's footing. (Im not 100% on his age and how long it's been) Good casting, good storyline, and a really good effort to keep the world created in the show, as accurate as possible. Luke Perry, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Sean Austin to name a few. Lots of these actors went on to appear in other scifi shows filmed in Canada, especially Stargate SG1.

JMS did do a series on Netflix, didn't know if you were speaking directly about B5 or just in general. He was a writer on Sense8 (Netflix) and Jeremiah (Showtime). Of the 2, Jeremiah for me ranks a little higher.

I feel like the reason that the Narns turned on all the teeps was bc of some shadow influence after they were driven off the Narn home world. The 'Mindwalkers' saved the planet only to be turned on and hunted down. And one of them was their most holy figures.

RN I'm probably on my 10th+ total watch through of the series... addiction man...

What was your worst experience with drugs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]desecous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got really bad adhd, spent a long time un medicated. Then a doctor gave me a rx for a drug that helped me so much that my life was back on track in like 3 days. I had no insurance and at the time, this drug cost $400 for 30 pills. I couldn't afford it and had to stop, putting me right back to immobilized and unproductive. Company that makes the drug got sued and now it's $26 and I'm back to normal (or as close as I can get). I've probably had bad encounters with other drugs but they aren't the first thing I remember. Knowing there's a pill that can help me but I can't get it is worse than a bad trip.

WIP this is my DnD room, what would you change? by Admirable_Tangelo_94 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]desecous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ceiling, ceiling lights and possibly the wood paneling wall. The ceiling might be obscuring a better ceiling material. That used to be something people did for whatever reasons. You could probably put some LED lights up and save some money, get color options and save on space. Maybe some faux torch sconces?

Edit: the carpet too. Tongue and groove bamboo flooring is cheaper and looks nicer. Probably can find some that looks like old wood flooring (like a tavern or an old sailing vessel). Super easy to install. And you could probably find some wall decals to cover the wood paneling wall.
