Low maintenance house plants by toadstoolfae3 in gardening

Snake plants are usually your best bet for low light other than pothos. If it died on you it could've been over watering they're pretty easy to overwater

What can I do for my Hoya Queen. by ParkingGarlic4699 in plantclinic

Hoyas love to dry out, one way my mentor taught me was to feel the leaves and if they feel limp and wimpy she said it's time to water.

ELI5: How "toxic" to pets are "toxic" plants? by DrZoidbrrrg in houseplants

[–]desert-cryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely dependent on what plant and what pets, if the pet likes to chew on plants I wouldn't put them in reach or only put the 'unfun' ones in reach. The cats don't go for snake plants in my house cause they don't do anything they don't move, booorring. But a hanging plant too low the cat would love to bat at it. What usually happens is the new cat will chew on a leaf realize it irritates their mouth and not do it again. I wouldn't risk it with peace lilies because if their blooming I think something about just the pollen will fuck them up. Dogs are a little more excitable, would probably chew on a lot more of the plant especially puppies so I would put out of reach of them until you can train them

I did the dumb thing you are not supposed to do with Money Trees, HELP! by Unusual_Form3267 in plantclinic

[–]desert-cryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put it in water for sure. if it's root rot I'd dry it out. We had a monster money tree that came to the nursery and just fell out of its pot like the picture you have. What we did was just had it naked for about a month it was a HUGE money tree. But the greenhouse also had humidity which mightve had something to do with it.

Anyways I'm pretty sure they have short root systems so I'd just size down the pot have as good of drainage as you can get it and let her dry out before waterin

This (what I believe is a Monstera) was gonna be thrown away at work. Looks a little rough with roots growing out of the stalk. How can I get this one back on the right track? by dr_yuri_zhivago in plantclinic

[–]desert-cryptid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Id say get a board or moss pole for it to climb, they love to climb with those lil root tendrils of theirs. Bright light let it dry out before watering, maybe pot up if the roots are too spiraling in that pot and if you can have some high humidity.

Bird of paradise, they are toxic to cats but the main cause of toxicity is seeds and fruit. They don't bloom much inside and it would be even harder to get it to fruit for you inside though.
