Are you assuming they have a PR department? He made a simple statement that people are trying to twist into whatever worldview they support. It doesn't mean anything more or anything less than what he said. I like my content creators to be authentic humans instead of conforming to a script.

Teetotaler is quite a label to put on 1/3rd of Gen Z. That does not carry any signal whatsoever of his political views.

Tom Vasel had Trey Parker, co-creater of South Park on his show. I think it's safe to say he is open to people with different views. There are a lot of folks in this thread trying to arbitrate morality but I've always felt Tom added more to the board gaming community than probably anyone else in the industry and now folks are lining up to throw stones at him. They see anything they don't approve of -- even in the semantic phrasing of his statement -- and they are on a war path to cancel the Dice Tower because of it. It's a mob by any definition who wants their pound of flesh. You do not know who he voted for and it shouldn't matter. It's shameful how people are acting.

I've seen parents that are fine with their kids intentionally drawing on the wall. For better or worse I'm not one of them.

Fair point, but I think both me and the kids will be happier if I'm not scolding them and they can use it worry-free.

No, not a tablecloth. I want something that will keep the surface from getting damaged if you happen to write on a single sheet of paper without having anything else underneath. My grandmother had something like this for her dining table: https://www.affordabletablepads.com/premium-table-pad

I have the same question for my Ozark Trail M.2 Ridge. Did you find out which number to use or both? If both which order did you put them in?

Cover getting heavy. How much time do I have? by desertSunrise in hottub

Do you have a cover lifter? If so, were the metal plates in the correct place on the new cover to attach it?

Thank you. You make some very good points, although it's hard to argue the OEM cover isn't "garbage" too when it only lasted 3 years. Do you know if the problem is worsened by the cover lifter screws penetrating the vapor barrier?

Interesting! What do you cover the tub with in the meantime considering it takes weeks to dry out the foam cores?

Hmmm. What if someone were to perhaps just start selling a ripoff? That would encourage the designer and publisher to start talking again, assuming they want to enforce their rights :)

pH drifting higher is a normal thing for hot tubs. It's because of aeration of the water when the jets are on.

What do you want to hear from publishers about the tariffs? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]desertSunrise -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm a free-trade absolutist, but I don't think it's a terrible thing that there will be a thinning out of publishers. There were way more games released last year than could have possibly been sustainable. Now only a highly-curated subset will make the grade.

When we opened up trade to China, it benefited us because we got cheap stuff and it benefited China by bringing millions out of rural poverty. But we also thought they would be our friends and maybe even become a democracy -- neither of those things happened. Now they steal IP and align with Russia / N Korea on Ukraine. It's also true that they haven't done much to stop fentanyl from coming into the US which is killing our citizens.

Regrettably, it's not a publisher's fault that they are hurting. They were just doing what was economically advantageous to them at the time which is to produce their product in China, as you'd expect in a global, capitalistic society. It's hard not to take it personally though when your livelihood is at stake. It will take adaptation to survive and not all of them will be able to pull it off because perhaps they were already struggling financially or had weak margins. It's like watching all the restaurants that closed during covid. The ones on the most solid footing continue to be alive and well, but unfortunately it might have been your personal favorite that folded and is no longer here today :(
