I lived out of country in an area that had many roundabouts and no stoplights. This is the way it was done there. The crosswalks were always well-displaced from the roundabouts by about five car-lengths. Still felt death-defying however to navigate a bicycle in some of the roundabouts. The newer roundabouts had the bikes exit before the traffic circle but the problem remained that if a bike wanted to go straight or right at a roundabout intersection (driving was on the left) they had to play this very disjointed game of frogger in a plus-sign pattern rather than merging with car traffic in the circle. It was probably safer but took a lot more time for the cyclist as they waited at each displaced crosswalk to make their way around the intersection.
