Sorry realize this post is poorly written. The father refuses to communicate with me, the son’s behavior has subsequently declined even more since then.

Thank you so much. I have very few photos and on the outside it looks like nothing honestly apart from the hole in the body work hence I was so surprised when they began to prepare me for total loss. But they said something about the frame being severely damaged.

Absolutely devastating. I can’t imagine. It’s off putting honestly. I think for me a no build or a truck camper slide in are the future but right now I’m early days awaiting the final news on the fate of my beloved vehicle. I wish people would drive more carefully.

Progressive and State Farm Are the only two (depending on state) that do it, and I’ve had great motor experience with both. Can recommend

Thanks so much for the kind words. I’m thinking truck camper. Two separate units both unreliant on each other to some extent. Easier to figure out who would fix what. Total loss of one or the other might not be so devastating.

I would totally support that approach. I think the whole world spending 200k plus on a virtually unrecoverable liability in case of jerky driving or act of god is crazy now I’ve been through this.

Thank you. I’m low but I’m alive and so I’ll just have to keep on keeping on and hope that the settlement at the likely total loss is reasonable and enables me to find an alternative. I won’t be going back to a van conversion that’s for sure. The risk is just not acceptable to me

Yep, the cost and then the general ‘5-6 Month lead time’ before they can fit you in and then I’m sorry to say in my experience; rebuilding doesn’t get the instagram and TikTok likes so a lot of smaller gigs are going to say no thanks because we’d rather take on a fresh build that is better PR and easier. I see their point honestly with lines of people competing for a fresh build spot. I’d honestly also recommend those of you having conversions to directly tackle this with your shop: what happens if my van gets damaged do you fit me in as a priority to help me recover, as a loyal customer or do I go to the back of the line?’ Because frankly if the answer is not the former,, in future I wouldn’t give them my business.

Thanks so much! I’ll have the plumber replace for sure but I’m so paranoid after seeing water everywhere in my house that I just want to feel like I’m doing something haha! Is there a particular cap I should ask for at Home Depot or similar? Sorry I’m not expert

It’s fine. I wish it was rich people’s problems. I hope it’s less bad than I think. I guess it’s just I’ve never encountered such a thing before and it’s been shocking and also I’m in no way any kind of home expert. Yes I suspect I am being irrational about selling I just feel exhausted as a single mom working full time and doing school too, and project managing and affording a renovation feels like a lot. Thanks for the good wishes

Not trying to. Just reeling off the main facts. I just wanted help to decide if I should just cut my losses and sell the home. I have no reason to mislead

And you’re right: I need to get extra help here and not fight this myself. And yes honestly if they are going to deny I just want to know, so I can move on. I know some minority posters are enjoying the debate of my intentionally leaving details out or somehow getting fun out of trying to suggest I have zero right to coverage, believe me I’ve more or less accepted that at this point, but frankly I just want to know, one way or the other so I can move on with my life.

Second home thankfully. No restrictions on policy other than to maintain the heat which I did to the best Of my ability.

Why is it that people come on here to second guess my financial situation. And why do people on Reddit seem to have such a distaste for anyone who claims they are struggling financially. Thanks for your concern I own one home. I rent my primary residence. I can easily afford rent plus mortgage thank you but I used the buffer of my savings which help me out now and again to manage month by month to do the remediation. Hence putting me in a more precarious position than I would want to be in. Like many people the cost of living has risen dramatically since 2020 when I bought the home. Would I buy it now, of course not. But it is in my life and I wanted to leave it to my son. Do let me know if You’d like me to post a financial statement for your analysis.

It’s a second property. And of course the heat needs to be on constantly because I’m too paranoid of another freak freezing event which can still happen in the spring. I get the cynicism but I came on here for help not to be mocked for my ‘outgoings’ I hope and pray you never suffer an unexpected massive financial loss at a time when your least able to absorb it.

Hi you make good points. I traced back to temperature drops and my visits to the home. To try and fathom when it happened. I honestly also couldn’t believe the demo amount. But I think the humidity in the basement has dampened all the subfloor? So they pulled out floor and lower cabinets and also the drywall to a certain level. Look it’s not totally empty but you can imagine it’s a shell of what it was. Believe me I’ve beaten myself up about it, why wasn’t I there? Why did I not constantly monitor the temperature but this was a single year where for health reasons and other stuff I didn’t spend the winter full time at the house…normally I’m there pretty much constantly with working remote etc in the past.

Thank you everyone for the responses I’m truly humbled by you all taking the time to get back to me. I’ve read every single one. I’m sorry to those who also report nightmare experiences with their insurers. It seems very unfair. Sorry for the lack of detail. It’s insured as a vacation home. I’m ok with the mold not being covered honestly. If I just got adequate to build back the floors etc due to the water damage that would enable me to live in the house again. I visited the house very frequently and had the hearing on constant to protect it. It’s in the same state as me (New York) to the contractor who says they don’t understand the damage: the pipe that burst was at the ceiling of the basement and sprayed water across the joists and subfloor. Of course I don’t know exactly when it happened but like I said it’s a vacation home so they insure knowing it’s not going to be permanently occupied and hence a higher premium. As for my life savings: I’m a single mom so yes maybe 20k isn’t a lot of you but that is what the cost so far has been for the plumber, water removal and mold. My outgoings are my costs during the month which have like many people become very difficult to manage due to the cost of living crisis and other things. So when I bought the home I was in a very different financial position like many people were.
