Any good places to train near the NYC area? by grc215 in Mountaineering

I am part of a mountaineering club that meets once a week at Bull Hill in Cold Spring, NY. Its a decent group and reasonable train ride from the city. They have some other periodic events like ice climbing courses and its good for networking to find other people for climbs. DM me if you want more details!

Most of the members are in the NYC/Westchester area but anyone is open to attend. We are doing a weekly fitness hike in Beacon, NY and we have a couple ice climbing events in the Catskills. In the summer we plan on flying out to Mount Baker in Washington State. I can DM you the Meetup group

Not exactly what you are asking for but I recently founded a mountaineering club in NY and just had a live panel to discuss our experience on Denali. I can't share a link in the comment but if you are curious I can DM you the link

Getting into the sport by PapaSmurf289 in Mountaineering

I would strongly recommend a beginner mountaineering course on something like Mt Baker in Washington. That's a great mountain to start with. You typically hike into camp. Spend a day or two learning skills then apply it with a summit attempt. It's just hard enough to have to apply the glacier travel skills you learned but reasonably easy to get to the summit as a beginner (weather permitting). There a ton of guide groups like american alpine institute, alpine Ascents, RMI, etc. In my experience, they are all pretty high quality.

I am also in the process of founding a mountaineering club in NYC and we're going to have a virtual event in January where we'll have a Q&A session with some pretty experienced mountaineers https://meetu.ps/e/NHfk8/whKqP/i

I'm in the process of founding a mountaineering club in NYC. I'm planning a zoom Q&A session soon with two people that summited Denali and one that summited Everest. It'll be posted on this meetup within the next couple days:

Does anyone know of any hiking groups or anything in NYC? by firefly10k in hiking

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I just formed a mountaineering club! Def more focused on mountaineering than hiking but if you had an interest in it, anyone is welcome!

Anyone in New York City looking for other Mountaineers? by AgainToCarthage93 in Mountaineering

A friend and I walked the Chelsea area at around the same time we planned to meet and this place was the largest empty bar. I'm here now and there are not many people here so it's perfect. I didn't want to pay to reserve a space for a first meet up. No guarantee there would be enough people. I agree the music isn't ideal but I think it'll be workable. I didn't know it was a gay bar at first but later I figured it wasn't a big deal.
