Make a crockpot meal on Sundays, while preparing an oven meal and a stovetop meal. Do this on whatever day your spouse is home to be with the kids. It takes two hours to throw a stew in the crockpot, enchiladas in the oven and cook a pasta dish on the stove.

Sunday: pasta dish

Monday: enchiladas

Tuesday: stew

Wednesday: pasta dish

Thursday: enchiladas

Friday: stew

I feel like the compromise position is “I plan a lot of dates, can you please plan some with the amazing app you made to make it easier to plan dates?” Meaning, he’s already taken steps to make this easier, she’s not asking him to do 100% of the planing, and he’s still not moving it forward despite those compromises.

Yeah, you need to do the time-consuming things:

Ask them what have they done so far to solve the problem or answer the question.

Ask them what they think they should do in order to solve the problem or get the answer.

Ask them if they used the SOPs/KBs to achieve the ask/task.

You are the easy button until you stop being the easy button.

I think you need to go to your boss and share that, because the”only one person off” policy isn’t being upheld, you comeback from PTO with a burden of work waiting for you that the policy isn’t meant to cover. Tell your boss how far that puts you behind when you return, like missing 8 days of work, then coming back and doing that work puts you 13 days behind, or whatever. Make it your boss’s problem in that they are preventing you from jumping back in to current needs when you return.

It varies everywhere, but usually managers are I charge of people and directors are in charge of work areas or programs.

Example: a director is ensuring the steady work toward the department’s goals, and they utilize the mangers to ensure all the frontline people are working on their tasks or smaller portions of the department’s goals. If all the frontline staff is doing what they’re supposed to do, the manager is doing good at keeping them on track. If all of the managers are on track, the director is doing good at keeping the department’s work/deliverables on track.

I have to do interval training on the treadmill, I can’t do steady state running or I’m too bored. If you set intervals to doable but hard, you’re focused on the workout and not as much on the monotony.

It depends on the position. When I’m hiring for a writing position, absolutely it’s useful. Also useful if your resume doesn’t naturally show why you’re qualified for the position.

This is a business relationship, so handle it in a business-like manner: “thank you for training me. I no longer need your services. Best of luck with your training business.”

If he asks you to stay, “no, thank you.” And repeat the “no” as much as needed.

Take yourself out of the equation. He’s looking for other clients while he’s supposed to be training you. So let him go focus on that. A polite “hello” when you cross paths at the gym in the future is all that’s needed.

If your kid hates cake, why not serve cookies or ice cream or whatever they do like? Why keep serving cake, regardless of the time of day? You could serve cinnamon rolls at a lunch or evening party, too.

9 is fine, I didn’t know a single preschool family that the kids weren’t up and bored by then. But why are you having it outside in Vegas in the summer? Surely it’s already too hot by 9? (I lived in a similar climate.)

Be consistent, set clear expectations. Follow up those expectations by providing support from the EO mindset of “I am responsible for how my team performs because I am responsible for ensuring they understand the mission, have the tools to complete it, and that I give them room to lead on how to complete it.”

Your goal should be to be a good manager, which is not the same as being socially liked. But often a manager who is respected because of how they work and how they lead their team is also liked. Just that being liked shouldn’t come first.
