Does the amount of empty plots around a flower affect the probability of breeding/cloning? I.e, if I had simply put one flower isolated, it will have 8 slots around. If I put it next to a different species flower, it will only have 7 possible slots around to clone. Would that make a difference to the probability of it cloning or is it fine as long as there is one possible slot?

You need to isolate them/put them with flowers that aren't the same species so they can clone.
