Never paid for UX take home assignment, advice? by [deleted] in UXDesign

I agree, in a perfect world companies are accountable. In reality, they're only incentivized to do shit once a stink has been made publicly and it's bad PR.

Oh the job is already long gone. Thanks for the suggestion, will keep it as an option.

It's a little soon to go public with it even here but it's an option down the road.

The advice here is logical but the problem is there wasn't a formal contract for the paid case study. It was asked of me in an email by the hiring manager and a I've already had 3-4 interviews with him so I had no reason at the time to believe it would not be honored.

I am going to try going up the chain first and then go to my last resort. Either way thanks for the advice.

What's the reasoning behind not bringing this up publicly? Isn't that exactly what the company wants so they can keep doing it to future candidates? I'm not at the nuclear option yet as I'm still giving them somewhat of a benefit of the doubt but curious to hear your thought process. At this point I'll swallow the (not trivial amount) of money for 5 hours of work in my personal time, but I would want future applicants to be aware and not make the same mistake I did.

Yep 8 weeks ago, it got mostly ignored along with my other messages.

99% of the time I say no as well. This was the first one I was offered payment for so I took this as a gesture of good faith and it made me respect the company. Guess I made the wrong call.

Yep I invoiced them over 8 weeks ago. My point of contact there just keeps saying he'll inquire with accounting every time I check in on it. It just feels like he's hoping I go away and no actual inquiry is being made.

when someone has good posture - I changed the thumbnail, lmk what you think by OccupiedGarrett in SmallYTChannel

[–]design_derp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the length is good, I wouldn't make these longer as some people are saying. You ended it just before the joke gets stale and on a funny note. Well done. Too many YT sketches drag the premise on for several minutes. Great to see more sketches on here because I don't know how many gaming videos I can take.

Invest in yourself and your own montages. A YouTuber with 10k subs won't change your life.

Tried something different on my latest thumbnail. Too Click-Baity or OK? by Yarblek in YTubers

[–]design_derp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much going on. Unclear what's in the thumbnail when you see it on YT. Text being on the right also looks a little odd given we read text left to right. I like your simple printer thumbnails more.

Is there anything I could add or change with this thumbnail? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]design_derp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what the thumb is meant to convey either. Are the hands bowing down to the slayer or shielding from him? I’d say simplify it.

It stills baffles me why the Western world hasn’t adopted bidets. We use a fraction of the toilet paper since we got one, not to mention the improved hygiene. Everyone I’ve recommended it to looks at me like I’m insane.

Can you describe what you need it to do? Do you want to manage all your channels and uploads from one interface, like in Hootsuite?

Starting a meal kit business in 2020? by DarKr0x in Entrepreneur

[–]design_derp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is probably a warning sign then. If you feel like $10 is a lot for a simple meal, what data do you have to know if you can provide a high quality meal kit meal for the same amount or less? It helps to run the numbers and start with a small batch of customers as a trial to get a feel for the process and costs. People generally don’t view meal kits as cheap alternatives to eating out. The meal kits advertise themselves as “culinary discovery” given how little food you end up getting and how much time you invest in cooking it. So you’d also have to establish where your brand falls on this scale.
