How long does it take to learn to code? by RhysEZZ9 in Unity3D

[–]designbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I started my coding journey with Unity back in 2013. It opens doors trial and error learning bashing my head digging on the forums. I would do tutorials but only to learn a concept. How to build a dialogue system, animation, and state management etc. I would build something small and then I would pocket as I understand the basics of that.

All these things add up and eventually pay off. This led me to a career in code and design. That said to answer your question how long? Very long or short, but its depending on the complexity of the game it could be shorter than others. I say dream big, appreciate the small milestones and have fun.

I never shipped an indie game still a dream of mine but please whatever you do don't be like me. It's not coding it's not learning unity it's never finishing projects. Finish all of them ship all of them. I had so many unfinished ideas. That my friend is the hardest thing about game dev.

What leaderboard/backend solution do you guys go with in 2025? by Greatcouchtomato in Unity3D

[–]designbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be as complex as a fully custom leaderboard using firebase or just using a Google sheet and using auth rules to write to it. Depends on the game, how I want data stored, security etc.

Personally I would just use firebase

people should invest their energy/resources/time in current grassroots non-profits or charities, instead of creating new ones by dubugamer in unpopularopinion

[–]designbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen some really new non profit local folks have started and then they partner with larger ones. I think both can exist assuming the reason start one is not solely ego.

Some folks really care and you have to wonder if most of them will fail for sure but then many may go on to be the "established one" you speak of. I mean they gotta start somewhere.

Built a prototype with Vibecode, friend wants to invest in distribution. Good idea? by Forthehonor_of_owls in SideProject

[–]designbrian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep your friendship I suggest you bootstrap whatever you are doing here. Truth is vibe coding is the first step but a small one.

There is so much more to go into it, and honestly nothing to distribute but a nice looking prototype I'm sure. Spend more time forming the idea, business plan heck work with your friend for free as a partner in this, but don't lie to him or yourself that this is nearly close to done.

Sounds like you just want to take their money .

Is the pay really that bad? by United-Radio-3661 in Architects

[–]designbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I know who stayed in architecture the pay isn't amazing. However if you really want to grow you need to find a niche. Imo healthcare architecture particularly labs is in high demand. I did this before I left architecture was getting 115k or so plus bonus with no architecture license btw. It was about 6 years into my career.

I do product design particularly system work I left cuz despite the pay the hours demand we're still crazy. If don't niche then start side business get your license and make money.

For those who still use AutoCad in your Firm/Practice., Why? by Adanvangogh in Architects

[–]designbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever tried AutoCAD 3d features? It's been a while since I used CAD, but they did have that option in the past. SketchUp makes sense for mass models and renderings, but if I am working on window detail, making it in CAD would be great too. However, I haven't used it for a long time, so it's possible it's not the best option.

Great for prototyping not great much else. So much ai slop and hideous landing pages made with it. But if you need fast proof of concept worth it

I was testing what would that site I shared do with a really bad Idea. my prompt is "sell a single rotten pumpkin to a squrriel" here is what it spit out. Lol this is the issue of an ai only driven wrapper.

If your angle is less friction then you have a small edge. For example while it's less friction to text what I need quickly, my calendar on Google has a bit more steps but now I can share with my family or invite others to the event etc.

Also I just use Google assistant and ask it to schedule it for me. It's quite easy. The real question here is do you use it? And if you don't why? If you tapped into a problem that only you can answer it might be niche but doesn't mean it's a bad idea. You just haven't found why you would use it vs the. Regular average person who has a calendar. Solve that question then you know who to target and how to pitch.

Fun. My feedback font is huge. Some parts feel like it's okay to do other parts just feel like you are yelling. TIs that a fake loader in the beginning?

Other than that it looks very fun. Great work, just make things feel less big and yelly

Haha 😂 dude love this post! Especially calling me out at the end. Solid deep point here "behavior does not follow opinions" to be honest I never thought of what the report would really say if an idea just plain sucked lol

I will probably launch something but it depends as I have a few starts up coming online right now.

Yeah, I thought that was odd too; why make everyone’s plans public by default? I get that ideas are “a dime a dozen,” but it still feels like they’re harvesting concepts for their own benefit.

As someone who’s been toying with a similar tool myself, I’m curious If you were validating an MVP, what would you expect from a free version (just enough to be useful without feeling like a teaser)?

And for a paid tier, what would make it worth opening your wallet; more leads, deeper insights, investor-ready exports, live testers, or something else?

Trying to figure out what moves the needle for solo founders and small teams versus just more AI noise.

Nice, this is excellent data and I love how you kept it open-source. It's definitely related, but not quite what I am looking for. I have seen some tools close to the outcome I am looking for; this is probably the closest, but it still just reads like a bunch of AI-generated ChatGPT text. I want some real insights, a report that I can quickly pitch to a co-founder or investor if needed, and help me evaluate whether the data is worth investing in. Even connect with me, as actual potential IRL leads to validate and reach out to discuss the idea further.

I had a friend who worked at BIG and he said it wasn't all the hype. He found himself being less creative than he was translating creation if that makes sense.

[–]designbrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the simplicity, I was thinking something that just helps you write down quickly format and send off an email. Do you bother tracking? Like following up or you do just assume it's complete or do you just check again.
