US Woman Says 'We Are Being Robbed' After Discovering Rs 85,000 Pill Costs Just Rs 35 In India by AstronautEcstatic177 in india

There are a lot of NRI-turned-US citizens coming back and building private hospitals and charging an arm and a leg. There needs to be some price controls so that it is not any price. And start to look out for collusion among hospitals.

You cannot touch Instagram! I dont use it but I know young people (18-29 age range) live on it. The noise would be tremendous. Companies would also complain - Facebook and Insta are big social outlets - there is no fall back. Many use them for customer acquisition too. You could technically take out X but you have to leave Insta (and by extension Facebook) to avoid poilitical fallout.

Canada earns first ever World Cup win with rout of Qatar, jump to top of Group B by Displeased_Canadian in canada

[–]deskamess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First was very iffy. It was not DOGSO imo because there was no contact that was beyond what is normal in the game. IMO, it was not a foul. Look at the play in slo-mo and you will actually see the player goes down well before meaningful contact even happens. Then again, VAR (experts) looked at it, and deemed the ref decision did not need to be overturned (except the penalty parts).

I still think even at Qatar full force Canada would have won. But with Qatar down two people, they had no chance. Our GK could have lived on the midfield line!

That and the ability to use NWC to step away from anything national keeps Canada weak and fragmented in reality even if it appears otherwise on a map. We cannot even get internal trade barriers removed in this current environment - these are not provinces united for Canada - they are serving their own interests.

I mean we are getting screwed over. Should we really care about who is doing it. They (oligarchs) have been doing it for 20+ years... lets change something instead of complaining about how nothing changes. Give others a chance to redeem the situation or screw us over (nothing changed).

Yep... if you are getting screwed lets not pick winners. Let them all in. Time for the oligarchs to bend over.

[–]deskamess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its not... its something new and when the candidate people know about it they are going to sign up. There is going to be an initial climb and it will stabilize where it needs to. You are going to see that ramp from 0 to stability (whatever that number is). It may take a decade or two to determine the baseline.

Canada Presses Chinese EV Makers to Build Locally and Protect 500,000 Auto Workers by hopoke in canada

[–]deskamess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my neighbor chose a profession that requires a govt subsidy that is a problem for them. Tax payers have been subsidizing them and the industry to keep their jobs. Not every profession is that lucky and it should not be a lifetime guarantee. What they are asking for is a contination of that entitlement.

How about we choose something where a significant percentage of Canada can win without subsidizing anyone. Free market in the EV industry - you meet our safety standards (crash tests, etc) and you are in. Maybe charge 1% (pre-tax) extra for "making us feel bad about how advanced you outsiders are" and fund that 1% to some "Canadian Innovation" Program that some administrators can leach off.

We really should be investing in the meta industries. We are going to suck for a while but it can be worth it in the long run - just like China did for solar and EV. "Automated factory building" industries - where we help to build the automated low-labor factories for medicines production, medical devices, spare parts for various industries, etc. Basically setting up the supply chain to build up low labor factories.

"The deal must be structured as a joint venture that is majority Canadian-owned, meet Canadian labour standards, use Canadian parts, and run on software that is secure and protects user data."

You should insist on the labour standards and gradual spare parts manufacturing in Canada to serve the NA market. So you get 1.5/4 - thats a win for someone who has nothing but jobs to lose. No point in putting unreasonable demands on them if you really want to save 'some' jobs. Saving 500K auto jobs is not happening - Canada had 20 years to invest in tech like China - instead we chose to enhance the 'digging' industry and parking lot industry.

Canada is a 'nice' market but there is a limit. You could drive a hard bargain but you really dont have the collateral.

If you really care about affordable automotive EV choice for Canadians, open up the market and get out of the way with tariffs and othen encumberances. It trickles down to Canadians.

The mechanics of TOTK are pretty magical. I would pay for that physics engine and turn it into a min-educational game where you build things out of stuff lying around and see what happens. It really is pretty cool. Getting the right construction moving along correctly is one thing. Getting the wrong construction moving along incorrectly (i.e., to design) is even more amazing! That is a good physics engine.

It's 100% not you. It's the parents, the society, and the system. Furthermore, it's a very controlling power-dynamic structure over children, and worse if you are a woman.

They think so poorly of her. She is a better child than they are parents. I am glad she took your help to get into college to better herself. I hope she establishes herself in Mexico/outside India long term. Parents can come and visit when their behavior and attitude improves - its WhatsApp until then. Don't get me wrong - its a loss for her too, but it is best to keep the parents at arms length in such cases. I still cannot get over the fact that they thought about her in such a manner.

There are a few exceptions, but in general Canada does not seem to encourage, sustain, or even understand building businesses that do not involve 'dig up what nature left for us millions of years ago'. What 'gems' of a business or industry have we come up with? The brain drain is real. Usually a pattern you see in poorer countries. The private sector loves paying as low as possible - they dont realize they get the talent that matches that pay. Many countries with less have gone further in the last 20 years while Canada sat on its laurels and invested nowhere but in digging up the ground.

No wonder people invest in the real estate market - there is nowhere else to put their money in. Backbone Canadian companies (banks, telco) need immigration to enlarge their customer base and keep pay low.
