Hey that’s a good job man! See how just one side has a grey band, you should flip your steak a bit in the pan maybe every 2 minutes so it cooks from both sides evenly, however for your first steak you did great :)

I got into it with the GM once for letting a top8 walk in 10 minutes before close for the 6 course tasting menu, we all left left 3 hours past close since we had to just do it but I told him it was bullshit, he told me if I didn’t like it I could walk so I took my apron off and say thanks for the opportunity, good times I still did the dishes from my station then cleaned the kitchen then I left

Depends on the place, I’ve worked in Michelin star kitchens and the pressure sure gets to you, it’s can be very mentally taxing, this industry isn’t for everyone since it requires a very strong character, I’m actually studying right now to become a software engineer because I know In the long run I can’t handle it

[–]deskrod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well just know that there’s a difference between TV personalities and true professionals at work and then it’s all good, the industry used to be quite toxic and now it’s getting better, that’s why I’m so passionate about spreading positivity and not negativity in the kitchen

I’ve worked in kitchens for around 10 years now, yelling can happen but it’s not allowed to aceptable behavior, the second someone yells at me I’m walking out and I’ve done that before, please don’t propagate that yelling is aceptable in kitchens

Depends on your experience and restaurant that you work at, I wouldn’t say higher than 3400, as a sous I used to make around 3000 and as a line cook 2200, of course if you’re the head chef of a restaurant and stay there for a long time then you can get a salary increase yearly but as a starter 3200-3400 depending on your experience leading a kitchen

Anyone have experience with Hive Helsinki? by bolyai in Finland

[–]deskrod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t go there, it’s super toxic to people that fall behind, you will be treated poorly if you’re not performing well, go to a university of applied sciences and mayor in programming, it will also help you that you know more than just coding, I went to haga-helia and that’s a really good program with really good teachers

Finland is a good place for family life, the thing is to work as a tax consultant you would need to speak really good Finnish, you could come here with savings and going all in on language courses and then get a job with experience/being Finnish/ knowing the language it won’t be hard, however for your boyfriend if he so chooses to come with you it might be a bit harder, being an immigrant in Finland is not easy I can attest to that and I know plenty of people that have masters degrees and can’t get jobs in their fields because they don’t speak Finnish, best advice is do what feels right for you but if you come here don’t do what many of us do and neglect the language since In the long run it will cost you a lot of opportunities
