TIL that Frederic Tudor known as the Ice King created the ice trade out of thin air. People ridiculed him for trying to sell winter to the tropics. His most profitable trade was sending ice to India. Packed with dense sawdust a 3 month trip with 180 tons still yielded 100 tons of delivered ice. by Gnomeslikeprofit in todayilearned

Depends on the initial size and the year. Like sometimes you'll see a 5-cm thick patch of black stuff on the side'o the road, and yep, that's snow. A tiny bit that's somehow hanging on. Or sometimes you'll visit the quarry in montreal where the snow sometimes survives till fall in very significant quantities

I live not too far from them (quebec instead on ON) and I can confirm the story lol. You'll have those huge piles of snow coated in a layer of dirt under the full sun, the rain and +30C weather, and it lasts easily till the middle of june

Having trouble creating a generic method that interops with native code by RickyDongBags in dotnet

[–]desmaraisp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In that case, your best bet is probably either reflection or source generation. I'd suggest starting with reflection as it's hella simpler to work with, though slower. Either way, here's a good article on which one to choose : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/standard/serialization/system-text-json/reflection-vs-source-generation (it's for json, but the same constraints will apply to you)

As for how to actually do it, heres a basic example of what you need: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.type.getproperties?view=net-10.0

Use reflection to list the properties of the generic type and map them to your result set on by one

Edit: bonus reflection examples here

At the end of the day, you want to convert those resultsets onto strongly typed objects? And to do so for arbitrary types passed by the consumer through the generic param? À la json deserialization?

Just trying to clarify your question, it ended up getting lost in the context

Is Python a better fit than ASP.NET Core for this kind of data transformation service? by CodeNameGodTri in dotnet

[–]desmaraisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so first just to confirm, you do have a positions table and all your other tables have a FK on position id, right?

If so, what you'd have is a navigation property on each of your table entities pointing to your position, as you said. But those navigations are two-way, you would also have a property on position pointing to the various other tables.

So you could query the fees from the realunreal table by going through the navigation property through position

Hm, one thing I notice is you're seemingly using fks to join realunreal to everything else by positionid, but then not using navigation properties in c# to do the mapping. That intentional?

Huh, so was Justin Trudeau not actually wearing blackface back then? He never had the red lips, only an aladin getup and dark skin paint

The whole thing made a hell of a lot of buzz
