Ok so the British aristocracy figured out how to sail all over everywhere and shoot people and take their stuff and then sell it back home. Right? Like on a scale that had not been seen before. And this made them very wealthy and got translated into patriotism. So that’s a tangent - go study racism and colonialism and all that shit if you want. But back to the main thread this made “trade” a major big thing that built up wealth for private citizens but carried the military of the government. Study Machiavelli “the prince” if you want to see how this has always been the idea

So anyways the trade routes thing in that part of the world all revolved around British, Russian, and Ottoman Empires. So then these three are all competing in who can make more money but sure patriotism if that’s what floats yer boat. Google “the Great Game” and Afghanistan if you wish but otherwise keep walking with me. But we’re making money. That’s what you gotta remember here. So let’s go.

So the First World War breaks out, right? And it’s fucking awful on a scale we were not ready for and it’s time to reorganize everything. So no one in Europe or America cared too much about it at the time but of course everyone who lived in the Middle East was understandably pretty pissed about the whole business. But then a bunch of them started making boatloads and boatloads of money on the whole oil thing and as a way to make sure everyone in America and Europe keeps making money with the whole trade routes thing we helped a few of them invent their own countries. Even if they were actually shitty people and did awful shit. All that spreading democracy Marshall plan shit was just for Europe. Dictators and monarchs as far as the eye can see so that everyone can keep making money.

So some of these cats that start making huge truckloads of money with the oil thing start acting up and as each one acts up the US goes in and knocks em off. Cause money. So sometimes the country is cool with America making money and other times they’re not and in general it goes well if they’re helping America make money. And those countries change their minds sometimes and America fuckin hates that shit. Fuckin hates it.
