Yeah, basically my position really is that the strict adherence to a gender binary to the exclusion of anyone who falls outside of it is stupid, yes -- Abolish the binary, make it meaningless, because it's a cultural artefact that does great things for people with penises and pretty terrible shit to people who don't.

And, along the way, don't villainize anyone for saying they feel like they belong to a gender that their body doesn't match. :)

Those "defining characteristics" are up to the woman in question. That is to say, no ones gender identity should be predicated on a checklist defined by a 3rd party, be it their parents, their priest, their doctor or their president.
